8-1-2018: The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, was no surprise to me at the NWL ASG. I saw Slaten this past spring against Oregon State, and though he gave up a few runs, he was impressive in the early innings with his sinking fastball, slider and changeup. Slaten showed similar fastball velocity at the NWL ASG this week, sitting 90-92 and up to 93 with the sinker, while also flashing the breaking ball in the mid-70s and the changeup in the low-80s. Slaten has a good, tall frame and has some definite projection moving into his junior campaign with the Lobos. This summer, he’s been a man among boys, striking out 63 and walking 18 in 49.1 innings, along with an impressive 1.27 ERA. Slaten has the overall repertoire and frame to be an easy top-10 round pick next summer. (K Rogers)
