Cape Cod- Hampton made seven starts and 11 relief appearances as a freshman at Tech this spring, going 4-1, 3.86 with 34 strikeouts and 17 walks in 44.1 innings. He posted a 14-4 K-BB mark in 11 innings for Chatham this summer. A physical 6-foot-3, 220-pound righty with a long arm swing to a high three-quarters delivery, Hampton worked at 90-93 and flashed above-average spin rates into the 2400s in our look. He has good feel to throw his 80-82 mph slider for a strike, though it's not a wipeout swing-and-miss offering at this stage. It has bigger three-quarters action and could use more bite. His 85-86 changeup was inconsistent in our viewing but was serviceable at times as a means to keep lefties off balance.
