6-foot-4, 205-pound, strong, muscular frame with broad shoulders. Friday night vs. crosstown rival Grapevine, the No. 16 ranked player in PBR Draft 100, threw a complete game no-hit shutout. Scherff was electric, facing one over the minimum, allowing one runner to reach base on a walk. The Texas A&M recruit works from a high-¾ slot with a short, quick arm stroke. His four seam fastball has premium velocity at 94-96 mph, touching 97, 98, and 99 mph one time a piece. Scherff mixed in a two seamer with late arm-side run at 91-93 mph. Early in the game, his curveball was 72-75 with 11-5 shape, and he mixed in a changeup at 84-86 mph. In the third inning, Scherff added a slider with 10-4 shape and lateral, slurve-type action at 76-77. As the game went on, not only did Scherff maintain his velocity, still sitting 92-94 mph, but his breaking ball got sharper, now bumping it up to 76-78 mph with tighter spin and depth. Overall, the senior was able to locate his fastball to both sides of the plate, especially into right-handed hitters. Most of the contact was soft, with multiple balls off the fists of Grapevine hitters. Scherff finished the night with eight punchouts.
8/9/16 - 3.2 innings pitched and allowed three runs on six hits and one walk. He struck out three and gave up a lot of hard contact. His fastball started out 94-95 and settled into the low 90s with arm-side life. He showed 10/4 shape to a breaking ball at 72-75.
6/24/16 - Pitched two innings of relief for Brave in the first game. He allowed two hits and struck out two. An Arizona State recruit, he has a strong frame and is listed at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds. He pitches with a short arm action and medium leg kick and sits 92-94 mph with his fastball, which had arm-side life. His slider is loose, with big, slurvy break at 75-78. His best secondary pitch was his 82-84 changeup with fading action.
