8/11/18 - Max FB: 84, FB: 82-84, CB: 70-75, CH: 74-77
6-foot-2, 200-pound, RHP showed a jump in velocity with intriguing lower slot. Prototypical corner IF frame w/ medium, sturdy frame w/ well-proportioned present strength, close to mature frame. Pitches from a full wind-up into low ¾ to sidearm release from the first base side of the rubber. Some effort in the throw. Arm slot drops from the stretch, more of a traditional side-armer. Occasionally needs to play catch up as lower half gets out in front, causing misses to the arm-side. FB shows occasional short arm-side run. Medium downer CB w/ proper shape and rotation when stays on top, occasionally gets around the pitch, creating more of a slider life to it. Straight CH w/ arm-speed. Around the zone.
8/11/18 - 60 Time: 7.18, Position Velocity: IF-84, Exit Velocity: 87
6-foot-2, 200-pound, RHH showed intriguing 2-way potential. Prototypical corner IF frame w/ medium, sturdy frame w/ well-proportioned present strength, close to mature frame. Offensively, hits w/ an open, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into stride to square and proper load. Simple, repeatable swing. Generates bat speed through the zone. Consistent hard contact w/ pull power. Shows ability to stay in sync with upper and lower half to generate bat speed. Projectable pull power. Defensively, shows easy arm strength at 1B w/ solid hands and athleticism.
6/14/17 - Home-1st: 4.95, Position Velocity: IF-79, Exit Velocity: 84
6-foot-1, 185-pound, RHH hits from a wide and slightly open stance, uses a short and early stride to load, stays well balanced with an active lower half, swing plane begins a little steep but flattens out at the end, potential for gap power. Defensively, moves well around the bag with good feet and solid hands, able to make every play at the position, gets a little rushed at times, arm is more that sufficient.
6/14/17 - Max FB: 82, FB: 79-82, CB: 70-71, CH: 66,
6-foot-1, 185-pound, RHP starts from a stretch-looking position before taking a very small rocker step to the side and initiating a small and controlled leg lift. Johnston gets more aggressive toward the middle of his motion and finishes the process with some high-effort movement toward the plate. A long arm action comes from a near over-the-top slot. Strong frame. Fastball was mostly straight but beared down on occasion. Curveball had 11/5 shape but was inconsistent.
7/27/16 - Home-1st: 5.14, Position Velocity: 73, Exit Velocity: 78
6-foot-1, 175-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and even stance, does nothing more than lift his front heal to get loaded and sits it back down before beginning his swing, hands hardly move at all, lower half fires but doesn’t always get fully cleared and slightly holds him back, swing is extremely short as his bat path comes straight down into the zone from its place right above his shoulder, some rhythm would help. Defensively, showed solid hands and average footwork around the bag, fielded the ball a little deep, long arm action through a high ¾ to over-the-top arm slot delivered accurate throws across the infield with pretty good carry.
7/27/16 - Max FB: 76, FB: 73-76, CB: 60-61,
6-foot-1, 175-pound, RHP uses a very slow and collected delivery that sees him gather with a closed front hip and some good shoulder tilt at the top of his motion, Johnston quickens his pace once he heads toward the plate and really jumps at the hitter, athletic build, strides very slightly closed but stays balanced, very long arm action comes through an over-the-top release point and creates a downward angle toward the plate. Fastball stayed mostly straight but showed some slight run at times, curveball had 12/6 shape but was buried a couple of times.
