OF/2B, (2021) Pigeon Forge, TN. 6-foot, 175-pound athletic frame. At the plate, Johnson's 96 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Starts in an athletic balanced stance with a controlled smooth load, then uses a small leg kick to initiate his swing. Had electric bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Was able to create loud contact and found lots of barrels. Gap to gap approach. Above average from the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 86 mph; has a clean exchange, twitchy sure hands and athletic smooth feet. Some accuracy to the bag, used a loose arm action and a ¾ slot. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.77.
4/13/20
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound showed some pure raw tools this fall at the Knoxville Fall Scout Day after logging 88 OF Velo and 91 Exit Velo. Swinging from the left side, the wiry-frame Johnson gets good launch on balls to the pull side with occasional 4-hole top spinner. Quick twitch athlete with loose, lightning quick arm (He can really move it). Plenty of skills to be a mainstay in the OF (lefty bat, strong arm, good speed), but some service time on the mound could be in his future with a special arm like Johnson.
