A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound southpaw had meteoric rise this summer. Lean, twitchy frame with some projection. Impressed with overall athleticism, logging a 6.94 sixty time and proving to be an impact player, both on the mound and positionally. At the plate, simple balanced setup with smooth stroke generating excellent bat speed (Max: 77.5 mph) and driving baseballs into the gaps (Max: 257 ft) from the left side. Defensively, rangy with good arm strength and accuracy. On the mound, simple, repeatable delivery with good pace. Quick, whippy arm that works to low 3/4 slot. FB sat 83-87 this summer with advanced spin (2331 rpm) and late life. Throws a mid to upper 70s breaking ball, which he manipulates the shape to vary from CB/SL, but feel for spin up to 2700 rpm via Trackman. Occasionally mixes fading CH at 77-81 to keep righties honest. The overall skillset makes Wilson another high-upside two-way prospect in this TN 2022 class.
7/21/20
5’10, 165-pound lefty barely broke a sweat on this day, retiring all 4 hitters he faced while throwing 16 of 20 pitches for strikes. Medium, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, projectable. Pitches from a full wind-up into ¾ to H ¾ release. Rock and fire type delivery w/ super quick arm. Glove side can get stronger, continuing to hint at velocity projection. FB w/ occasional short arm-side run, occasional ride through the zone. CB is a slurve, flashing true CB break as a medium downer w/ tight rotation or true SL life w/ late ¾ tilt. CH w/ short fade and sink, FB arm-speed. Pounded the zone, projects to command. Generated 3 swing and misses on 10 swings.
