Ean McCord (2025, Davidson Academy) McCord comes in with an exuberant personality and confidence that hardly goes unnoticed, especially with the ball in his hands. I haven’t seen him since this past summer where he caught my attention defensively and seemingly looks like he has slimmed down a considerable amount where he comes in at 6 foot 1 and about 230 pounds. He is more athletic than his size indicates and moves extremely well down the mound with a clean arm action and strong finish. His hips aren’t really stiff and turns them over with ease and effortless actions. He had a very strong start for Davidson only running into trouble in the 2nd inning with a couple of walks and two hits that put 3 runs on the board but cruised from there, routinely going 3 up, 3 down with 15 pitches or less in the subsequent innings. On a chilly night, the fastball held some velocity topping 88 mph, while sitting firmly at 84-86 over 5 and 1/3 innings striking out 8, while also showing a feel for both a changeup and a slider. McCord showed a lot of toughness and it is easy to see that the kid likes to compete, while giving his team a chance to win on any given night.
