5'10, 140-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and even stance and uses a short, quick, and early stride to get himself set, sudden and slight push back of the hands comes at the same time of his stride. Lower half works, but fires at almost the same time of his hands, limiting the separation he gets on a regular basis. Hands and barrel did come through the zone on a good plane and produced a lot of low line drives in BP, driving the ball and showing any kind of pop when Dickens matures and adds strength to his frame. Defensively, showed average footwork and hands and even fielded some balls with two hands from the outfield, did his best to work through the ball and looked very athletic on a couple of his throws from a high ¾ arm slot with which he showed very good accuracy and average arm strength.
6/14/16 - Max FB: 76, FB: 74-76,
5'10, 140-pound, RHP uses a methodical motion as he uses his rocker step to gather himself and establish a good anchor with his right foot, nearly coming to a stop to achieve it. Leg lift leads into a slightly open stride that helps him clear his hips and deliver pitches to the plate from a short and almost pushy arm action, lower effort delivery allows him to stay balanced and only showed a slight fall toward first base on most finishes. Fastball was seemingly the only pitch he threw, as every pitch registered between 74-78 mph, stayed fairly straight and didn’t have a whole lot of action on it.
10/25/15 - The 5 foot 10, 130-pound prospect posted a 7.66 60 time and had a 78 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Dickens shows short arm action with an over the top release, some accuracy on throws, average arm strength, average hands, fluid footwork with good set up on fly balls. Offensively Dickens currently has below average bat speed from the right side and had a 71 mph exit velocity off the tee. Dickens hits from a balanced setup with a mid-length stride, gets some use out of his lower half, shows average overall balance, long/level swing path with a mid to opposite field approach. Offensive game will continue to evolve with added physical strength. Dickens went 0-for-3 in game play.
On the mound, the RHP throws from a high-¾ arm slot with short arm action that comes straight back out of the glove. Dickens relied on his fastball for his outing which has slight arm side run to it and sat 77-78 mph touching 79 on one occasion. He stayed low in the zone for his outing and worked in and out with his fastball. He also fielded his position well on the mound. Dickens gave up one hit in one inning pitched during game play.
