Cape Cod: A freshman All-American two years ago thanks to his power bat, Grice is a legitimate two-way talent but has logged just 16 innings in his first two seasons at Clemson. He made four mound appearances this summer, posting a 0.00 ERA in 10.2 innings, with 13 strikeouts against five walks. He breezed through four scoreless frame in our look, and though he did not show the low-90s velocity we’ve seen from him in the past, he showed pitchability at 85-88 with very good sink down in the zone. That sinker is Grice’s best pitch, and he leaned upon it heavily, but he mixed in a well below-average curveball at 74-77 with very low spin in the 1900s, along with a below-average changeup at 80-82 with sink that is the more promising offspeed pitch. In all likelihood, Grice’s pro future is as a power hitter, but he should get a chance to compete for innings under new coach Erik Bakich as a junior at Clemson next spring.
Cape Cod- Grice had a limited stint on the Cape, playing just nine games before heading to Team USA and then shutting it down. But he hit two homers in those nine games and impressed the Chatham coaching staff with what Holliday described as "wow" power. Long-levered at 6-foot-6, 235 pounds, Grice has some length in his lefthanded swing, but he has feel for the strike zone, and his true 80 raw power on the 20-80 scale is an invaluable commodity. He also pitches, and he popped 95 mph with a hard slider in bullpens for Chatham this summer.
Clemson recruit. Long-limbed with an elastic, 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame, and throws from the left side. His loose arm has some whip out front, and his fastball worked 83-85 with much more to come in the future. Showed varying feel for both a changeup at 74-76 as well as a tight, 2/8 breaking ball at 68-73 that both show potential of being above average offerings in the future.
6-5 205 lb OF/LHP with tremendous upside. Long arms and loose whipping arm action. Tempo/Rhythm present during delivery. FB 83-84 T85 with arm side life. CH with feel flashes plus potential 74-76. Tight CB (68-73) with sharp two-tier break. Wide stance at the plate with a quick/soft stride. High hand set and back elbow produce positive attack angle with natural loft at contact.
