Comments

2/24/18 Defensively, gets behind ball and plays at it's height. Attacks and plays through ball on ground with proper technique and confident glove hand. Recorded 77 mph arm strength on throws from the OF.

Offensively, 5-foot-8, 160-pound left-handed hitter initiates swing from open set up with subtle knee to knee movement and stride staying open. Separation is solid, weight shift is passive and hip turn is adequate. There is intermittent compromised backside release. Swing path is steep. Barrel feel was present with squaring of multiple balls during round of bp. A substantial for age bat exit velocity of 88 mph was registered. Athleticism and fast twitch skills make Bender an interesting Class of 2020 follow.

1/14/18 Defensively, there are obvious fast twitch skills present in movements. Bender plays through the ball on the ground and follows throws as OF. OF velocity of 78 mph was recorded.

Offensively, swing is initiated from a wide, neutral set up with knee to leg kick and stride staying neutral.. Bender works well away from hands in achieving separation. Hands are very quick and work directly to the baseball. There is solid leverage at contact and extension through the baseball. A bat exit velocity of 84 mph was recorded.

On the mound, Bender works out of over the top arm slot while staying in line and repeating well. FB sat 74-75 mph and lacked movement. CB displayed 11-5 shape at 57-59 mph. At best CB flashed late, sharp break and moderate depth. CH could not be commanded on this day and remains work in progress.
