Physical: Broad-shouldered, strong 6-foot-1, 198lb frame with mound presence.
Pitching: RHP - Starts off the left corner of the rubber, utilizing plenty of hip-coil at a high stack position. Hides the ball and unwinds his body down the slope with some elasticity in the upper-half. Loose, fluid H ¾ slot on an 88-89 mph FB that carries well into the zone at 2315 rpms/19.4 inches IVB. Mixed a sweeping low-70’s breaker that moved well laterally, and created some depth on an above-average 75-77 mph SL (2424 rpms). Pounded the zone with the secondary stuff, and showed the makings of a power splitter at 74-76 mph (1269rpms, 50% zone rate).
2/23/20
Showcased an advanced physical 6-foot, 195-pound frame with present strength in his actions and feel for his body. The primary right-handed pitcher sat 81-84 mph out of a quick, high ¾ arm-slot using a controlled tempo in the setup and slight leg coil upon delivery. Mixed in a sharp 67-70 mph curveball with 11/5 shape and present depth in the zone. Countered with a 72-74 mph changeup thrown with adequate sell and featuring arm-side fade. The right-handed hitter begins with a tall, even stance utilizing a controlled leg-lift with weight shift to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. Generated easy hand speed through the hitting zone with tight turns, creating a pull-side approach during batting practice. Recorded an 87 mph bat-exit velocity during batting practice while hitting into a stiff front side and ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. The third baseman showed off long, choppy actions with adequate footwork allowing for plays to be made on both the back and glove hand sides. Notched an accurate 80 mph arm-strength across the diamond out of a high ¾ arm-slot.
1/06/18
Defensively, hands are adequate while playing ball out front. Arm strength at this age plays to left side of infield. Throwing motion is long.
Offensively, initiates swing from neutral set up with aggressive leg kick. There is considerable hip coil and aggressive weight shift and hip turn. Considerable separation is achieved. Despite a lot of moving parts swing showed good balance and rhythm.Hands work quickly and directly to the baseball achieving a short barrel path. Swing plane is solid and there is natural ability to backspin the baseball.
On mound, Slepak worked out of a mid 3/4 arm slot. There was solid hip coil and use of lower half with balance and rhythm to delivery. A consistent ability to repeat motion was demonstrated. FB sat 73-76 and lacked movement. CB had 11-4 rolling action and CH at 67-69 was commanded well with moderate arm side fade.
