Physical: XL, powerful frame at 6-foot-7, 235lbs. Good body control. 8.11 runner in the 60.
Offensively: LHH - Had a breakout batting practice round, peppering the RCF gap with consistent loud contact. Started from an upright stance with the elbows operating loosely, before a quick toe-tap stride delivered the barrel through a slightly uphill path into the zone. Stayed behind the ball well and worked towards a deep one-handed finish on the backside. Lots of torque available and attacked out in front of the plate. Registered a T98 mph exit velocity at 348 feet, adding in a 62% sweet spot rate.
Defensively: The first baseman demonstrated some natural feel around the bag with a wide base, medium posture. Chopped the feet while arriving on time and released from a lower effort, ¾ slot (75 mph arm).
Pitching: LHP - The southpaw threw everything for strikes and held the arm-side consistently during his ‘pen. Began off the right side of the rubber; hip coil above the waist, and slowly drew out of the glove before the arm exploded through a ¾ slot. The FB landed at 85-86 mph with heavy action and tunneled a beautiful, fading 74-76 mph CH across the plate at a 50% clip. Two different breakers – A two-plane 1/7 tilted, 70-71 mph CB that showed exceptional command and 75-77 mph SL with short, late sweep.
2/27/21
Physical: 6’6 235lb LHP/1B ran an 8.33 laser timed 60-yard dash. Large physical frame is still young and loose. Room to improve physically and improve overall strength.
Offensively: Starts in a tall and narrow stance before striding forward into the pitch. Front foot strikes the ground as the barrel begins accelerating towards the ball. Uses natural strength to produce power to his pull side.
Defensively: Large frame gives a good target for other infielders to have confidence when making throws. Shows ability to throw to bases and move well around the bag.
Pitching: Smooth and slow windup generates power throughout the process. Has an aggressive and quick arm that works in a whipping action. Displayed a three-pitch mix, all out of the same arm slot and arm speed.
