Strong, solid body type and projectable 6’2’’, 195 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. High leg kick load with some lower half involvement. Short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Compact swing, creating some bat speed through the hitting zone. Stays behind the ball and gets good extension through contact. More lower half involvement would add some fluidity to the swing. Stayed gap-to-gap and showed some pop. Recorded an exit velocity of 79 mph. Bends well and sets up to the ball in an athletic position at first base. Showed fundamental footwork on double play feeds and throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 75 mph. Ran a 7.36 60-yard time. Slightly up-tempo wind-up and high leg kick into a tall, compact balance point. Smooth downhill delivery with some lower half involvement. Gets over front side and lands slightly closed to the plate with a slightly upright finish. Clean hand separation and showed some arm speed through release. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Fastball ranged 74-76 mph and touched 78 mph. Breaking ball had big, gradual 11/5 shape at 61-63 mph.
10/07/18
10/7/18 - 6-foot-2, 195-pound primary pitcher sat 81-82 from a 3/4 arm slot with heavy arm-side run and some sink to his fastball. Physical frame and repeatable mechanics should lead to additional velocity gains moving forward. Curveball is a work in progress with 10/4 rotation at 68-69. Changeup at 68-70 is thrown at near fastball arm speed with similar sinking action. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly closed stance and uses a short, leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Displayed some feel for the barrel and strength in his lower half with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Moves well for size as evidenced by his 7.38 60-yard dash. Showcased a developing defensive skill set at third base with 78 mph arm strength across the diamond.
6/20/18
6/20/18 - Underclassman with a projectable 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame sat 72-74 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Uses a side rocker step and a short arm circle take away to begin his delivery. Also displayed a curveball with 10/4 rotation at 61-62 and a changeup that is still in progress at 60-61. Worked three innings allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three.
10/28/17
10/28/17 - 6-foot-1, 180-pounder sat 75-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot with arm-side run to his fastball. Starts delivery with a short, side-rocker step and maintains balance throughout. Two-seam fastball displayed similar run and velocity while changeup was thrown at similar arm speed sitting 61-65. Curveball has slurve shape at 60-62 from a lower 3/4 arm slot. Repeatable mechanics and solid frame project for velocity spikes in coming years.
