Physical: Wiry, athletic 6-foot, 165lb frame. 7.46 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH. Wider, upright stance, as the hands waved with quick rhythm by the head. Utilized a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate the swing through a flat, whippy path into the hitting zone. High finish, which produced some lift at times from gap-to-gap, recording a T85 mph bat-exit velocity via Trackman. Worked up to a 292 foot distance and 55% sweet spot.
Defensively: The shortstop displayed adequate feet on the left side of the diamond. Played behind the ball with accurate hands in front, keeping momentum towards the target. Reached back for a 75 mph arm-strength across the dirt.
Pitching: RHP. Begins off the left corner of the rubber; minor hip-coil and a quick, twitchy move into footstrike. H ¾ release with hip-shoulder present on an 80-83 mph FB (2026). Threw strikes early and mixed a down-action, upper-60’s CB with success. Added a 72-74 mph straight-CH to round out the arsenal.
6/15/21
Physical: Lengthy, athletic 5-foot-11, 155lb frame with room to continue filling in the frame. 7.39 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Upright, tall, open stance at a narrow start, using a short lift and replace stride out towards the pitcher on-time with a stretched load at the shoulder. Found success through a slightly uphill path into the hitting zone, matching pitch-plane early with some lift at impact. Generated hard contact sprayed over the middle of the field during his batting practice round, working up to a 92 mph bat-exit velocity while notching a 54% fly ball / 39% line drive rate split via Trackman Baseball. Natural ability to operate in space, handling multiple quadrants with feel for the barrel.
Defensively: The primary middle infielder featured an active first step getting over the front side down through the baseball; approached with good tempo and held posture while funneling inward with a soft glove hand out in front of the body. Clean actions and released quickly from a high ¾ slot (81 mph arm).
Pitching: RHP - Started off the middle of the rubber with the hands over head on-time with a short side-rocker. Held pace in the delivery getting to a balanced stack with a slight stab in the back before reaching over the front side through H ¾. The FB ranged from 76-78 mph with carry to the bottom of the zone (low spin around 1850rpms, high IVB profile; 23.5 inches AVG via Trackman) holding strikes at a 35% rate. Mixed a sharp 70-72 mph SL getting swing/miss in advantage counts up to 2300+rpms, and added a quality 68-70 mph CH thrown with sell/slight fade.
3/30/21
Physical: 5’10 150 lb MIF/RHP has shown some growth in his physical appearance which has improved his overall game. Continued improvement every time we see him.
Offensively: Starts in a relaxed upright stance, with a controlled load. Smooth swing with the hands allows him to stay long through the ball, mainly driving balls through the middle and to the pull side. Registered an 80 mph exit velocity off the bat.
Defensively: Athletic movements that put himself in a good position to make the routine play. Consistent glove angle and positioning to secure the ball. Arm strength played up to 80 mph across the diamond. Played the slow roller off to the side with momentum moving in the direction of his target with a low sidearm slot.
Pitching: Slow and deliberate windup with an overhead glove move, generates rhythm through the leg lift just before separating and driving towards the catcher. FB registered in at 80 mph (2143 max spin), which is a jump of 4 mph since the last time we saw him. Also a CB at 71 mph and averaging over 2200 spin rate.
