Physical: Long, lean, physical, 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame. 7.3 runner in the 60.
Offensively: Starts in an upright stance with an even base and his hands out in front of his body. He uses a big, long stride to get into a quick and powerful right-handed stroke. He shows advanced hand speed and a good feel for his body as he is able to utilize his lower half to his advantage. He shows some present pull side juice, something that should continue to develop as he gets stronger. He made consistent hard contact during his BP round, peaking at 99 mph exit velo and had an average exit velo of 93 via Trackman.
Defensively: Starts and stays low to the ground defensively, he’s smooth and agile for his size and shows a feel for some soft hands.
Pitching: Starts in the middle of the rubber and gets into a controlled, deliberate windup. He brings his glove to neck height along with his average leg lift before striding out directly at home plate. Has a quick, moderate arm swing and throws from a ¾ arm slot.
Fastball: Gets on the batter quickly, shows some arm side life and sat comfortably in the 79-82 range.
Slider: Has some slurvy action to it, two-plane breaker that seems like it could use some refinement. Sat 67-70.
2/29/20
Demonstrated advanced feel for a lean and physical 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame with present athleticism in his actions. The right-handed hitter begins with a balanced, even stance utilizing a quick leg-lift stride to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. Generated advanced hand speed with long levers whipping the barrel through contact recording a loud 92 mph bat-exit velocity during batting practice. Athleticism and fluidity in the lower half created advanced hip-shoulder separation allowing for natural pull-side lift. Showcased one of the top rounds of the day with repeated hard barrels to all fields and a frame that could reasonably still add 15-20 pounds. Ran a 7.88 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman displayed a feel around the bag with a low center of gravity and soft glove hand working through the ball out in front. Used inside turns on double plays yielding quick transfers and recovery ability back to the bag. Recorded an accurate 78 mph arm-strength across the infield out of a high ¾ arm-slot. The right-handed pitcher sat 80-83 mph with downhill action and arm-side run out of a long and high ¾ arm-slot with hip-coil upon delivery. Mixed in a 66-69 mph curveball featuring sweeping 11/5 action across the zone. Countered with a 68-71 mph changeup flashing occasional arm-side fade. Needs to throw the changeup with slightly harder arm-speed to increase deception.
6/11/19
Projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound two-way prospect. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a feel for the barrel while consistently staying behind the baseball. Registered an 88 mph bat exit velocity and went 3-for-7 in game action over two days. Ran a 7.88 60-yard dash and showcased capable defensive actions around the bag at first base with accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 78-81 on the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot. Also displayed a developing curveball at 61-64 with 11/5 rotation. Worked three innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out four.
6/20/18
6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed hitter initiates swing from open with small leg kick and stride staying open. Weight shift and hip turn are aggressive with solid separation achieved. The bat spends considerable time in hitting zone with a flat path present. There is subtle front knee softness following heel plant. Malec would benefit from consistently releasing into a firmer front side. Overall a young player who shows potential of developing into a consistent run producer. A bat exit velocity of 82 MPH was registered.
Defensively hands and feet are adequate while working bottom up. Transfer is clean and throwing motion is long. Male would benefit from being more aggressive in attacking and playing through the ball.
