5-foot-11, 160-pounds, strong frame, lean build and athletic, ran a 7.12. Smooth arm swing from the OF, 84 mph arm velo, carry to the bag. Good hip rotation on throws. In the box, open stance, with quiet loose hands. Creats some torque with a slight turn in with hips. Bat plane is level through contact. 88 mph exit.
Wide shoulders with average sized frame. Simple mechanics that he consistently repeats. Good balance and extension in his delivery as he finishes. Showed the ability to mix 3 pitches.
6/6/18:
Dempsey ran a 6.87-60. Arm strength measured at 79-MPH from the outfield, Pitching- fastball ranging from 78-80-MPH topping off at 80-MPH, with a 70-MPH curve.
10/28/17
Primary pitcher sat 77-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long arm motion. Fastball showed significant cut action while his curveball at 68-71 displayed slider break. Changeup was thrown with good sell at 71-72 while showing some sinking action. 5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and takes a short stride to square in initiating his swing. Displayed a short swing path with a solid feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 6.88 60-yard dash and flashed accurate 79 mph arm strength from the outfield while playing through the baseball.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Lanky 5-foot-11, 146-pound right-hander with a projectable pitcher’s frame. Pitching - clean arm action, out of smooth and fluid delivery, uses height for downward plane on fastball with late movement 78-79 MPH, positive hip tilt at balance point, commands 12-to-6 curveball down in the zone at 68-69 MPH. Offensively - out of nearly upright stance, keeps bat on level path through the strike zone with extension after contact for an exit velocity at 80 MPH, little to no evidence of lower body engagement, counter rotation between upper and lower torso will produce immediate power results.
Evan is a lean, athletic 5-foot-10 135 pound OF/RHP with free and easy actions. Offensively- At the plate Evan sets up in an even stance with his feet slightly outside his shoulders. Hand position starts on back shoulder with his bat angle in the 30 degree range. He uses a short load with stride for timing, staying behind the ball into contact. Lower half exhibits good balance and aggression with a relatively short swing path into the zone (top hand levels early but stays through contact well). Uses the middle of field with line drive results. Effort is easy and repeatable. Exit velocity off the tee was 74 MPH and he ran a 4.58 home-to-1B. Defensively- As an outfielder Evan starts with his feet wide and a bit low (infield like). Stays aggressive with his approach and fields the ball outside his glove side foot. Uses a quick shuffle step vs. a full blow crow hop. Throws showed good carry from a low 3/4 slot. Feet stay active throughout. Above average positional velocity of 77 MPH as a 2020 grad. Will benefit from getting his body into a better throwing position via the crow hop so he is able to repeat his release point. Pitching- On the mound Evan sets up am side, pivoting to center rubber with a short side step. Drives up to a 3/4 chest high balance point. Arm action is long and loose, working throwing a low 3/4 arm slot. Aggressive with stride length but stays under control and closed into landing. Gets over front side well with arm extension. Back leg drive could feed more into his finish. Fastball stayed down in the zone and sat 72-73 MPH, touching 74 MPH. 2-seamer showed sharp lateral action to his arm side. Change up stayed in same direction with some late fade. Out of the hand it was 67-68 MPHbut played better then that as it reached the plate. Breaking ball was more of a slider/slurve variety featuring 2-to-8 actionat 64-65 MPH. Good feel for all 3 pitches and has a promising upside as a dual position player.
