5/12/15 The big bodied right-hander worked quickly and throws downhill. His fastball was 81-84 with some life and topped out at 85 mph. Shimmel's curveball was 69-71 and showed slurvy movement early, but as the game went on he was able to get tight 11-5 break. He also flashed a change up at 70-73 mph with some arm side run.
6/19/13 Shimmel is a 6-foot, 195-pound RHP/3B that showcased the ability to play through the baseball with throws of 74 mph from 3B. He utilized a high hands load to barrel the baseball consistently during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. The left-handed hitter showed a flat bat path and the ability to use all fields in a solid round of batting practice. Shimmel pounded the strike zone out of a high 3/4 arm slot sitting 75-77 with his fastball. He also showcased a drop down curveball at 65 mph, a 69 mph changeup with some arm side run and a 64 mph splitter that he commanded for strikes. Shimmel will need to work on his foot speed and agility to continue his progression to the next level.
