Physical: Durable, high-waisted 6-foot-1, 195lb frame with projection present.
Pitching: LHP - Started tall off of the left side of the rubber with moderate pace to the delivery. Comfortable hand-break in the forward move allowing for some downhill tilt in the shoulders and arm-action at release (compact, H ¾ slot). The FB entered the zone at 77-79 mph with some ride/run to the bottom of the zone (2100rpms). Mixed a 1/7 shaped 67-70 mph CB that gained depth throughout the ‘pen and countered with a hard-thrown 74-75 mph CH.
Offensively: Has some rock and rhythm in the swing. Starts with feet slightly wider than shoulder width. Hands begin above shoulder and work straight back during the load. The load starts late at times. Simple up and down stride that gains some ground towards the pitcher. Barrel is flat through the hitting zone with a low finish.
Defensively: Maintains a low chest angle as the ground ball is approaching. The left handed thrower fields the ball off his right side and uses a pro step during the exchange. Overall a fluid field and throw.
Pitching: LHP. Starts with his heels on the rubber and squared to the plate. Goes from the middle of the rubber to the 3B side during the rocker step. Uses a leg lift to waist height as he preps to move down the mound. Drops into the backside as the lead leg strides out. The glove stays at chest height up until glove break. The arm action is abbreviated and quick. On glove break arm goes down as has a slight stoppage of motion as it prepares to move forward. The arm is quick as it moves forward.
1/14/18 Defensively, young, developing layer shows athletic actins while taking direct routes to baseball. Benefit would be gained from being more aggressive in getting behind and playing through the baseball.
Offensively, initiates swing from neutral set up with stride while staying neutral. Back elbow leaks in front of hands creating drag and difficulty getting on plane. There is front side softness. Benefit would be gained from connecting directly with back elbow and rotating around a firm front side.
On the mound, young, developing pitcher works out of low 3/4 arm slot with long, loose arm action. Delivery is repeated well with solid balance and rhythm. FB at 69-70 mph shows consistent, arm side run. CB at 61-63 mph demonstrates 1-7 shape with late, sharp break. CB has makings of out pitch. CH is presently work in progress. Schwab shows signs of developing onto a formidable mound presence.
