9/30/18 - On the mound, 6-foot-2, 175 pound, right-hander works out of mid 3/4 arm slot with moderate effort, repeatable delivery. There is balance and rhythm lending to solid fastball command. Fastball sat 79-81 mph with consistent arm side run. Curveball at 70-71 mph was inconsistent on this day showing 11/5 shape and limited depth. Change up sat 74-76 mph and was quality secondary offering being thrown with good sell, solid command and consistent fade.
Gabel a 6-foot-1, 165-pound RHP/SS from Conneaut Area HS worked out of high 3/4 arm slot with FB sitting 77-80 and showing limited movement. CB at 70-72 mph featured an 11-5 shape with rolling action. CH lacked separation at 73-74 but did show considerable sink and fade to arm side. Delivery is repeated well with good balance, rhythm and timing.
Initiates swing from neutral set up staying square while striding. Gabel had difficulty being on time on this day. Benefit would be gained from leaving hands back longer while being more aggressive in weight shift and hip turn.
Defensively, as MI Gabel did play ball bottom up and out front. He would benefit being more committed in attacking and playing though the baseball.
