7-20-2018: Virginia outfielder Alex Tappen had a quiet showing, but I’m confident he’s going to be an impact bat for the Cavaliers in 2019. Tappen hit .262/.321/.390 with 13 homers and four doubles in 210 at-bats as a freshman this spring, and he’s having a great summer for the Redbirds, hitting .348 with 18 doubles (six more than any other Ripken League player) and two home runs. He has a strong, athletic 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame and plenty of opposite-field pop in his righthanded stroke. Expect big things from Tappen as a sophomore.
