Our staff got its first look at 2024 LHP Ryan Press (West Virginia) this past weekend and the arm is looking healthy, sitting 90-91 T92 with the fastball. Has added a couple bounds but the body is looking relatively similar, now 6-foot-1, 178-pounds and continues to spin the breaking ball well with 12-6 shape and ability to land it for strikes. Also flashed a slider and changeup during the bullpen. One of Canada’s top true 2024 arms and has already thrown for several pro scouts early on this year.

2024 LHP Ryan Press (West Virginia commit) has put together a strong summer between his season with the Toronto Mets and this past week at the Canada Cup in Regina. 6-foot-1, 170-pounds who moves well on the mound with a quick arm that has length in the back. The fastball sat comfortably at 88-90mph and generated whiffs on the curveball at 68-70mph with 12-6 look. The sweeping slider at 79-92mph has the chance to become a real weapon as he continues to develop feel.
6/18/23
This was our second look at 2024 LHP Ryan Press (West Virginia commit) and the biggest difference this time around was the low-80s slider he flashed occasionally. It’s a firm slider with late sweep and has the chance to be a putaway pitch as he continues to develop feel for it. The fastball continues to sit in the upper 80s, touching several 89s early on before settling in the mid-80s with minimal effort in the delivery. Arm to keep tabs on over the next year from the Toronto Mets as he continues to develop and refine his secondary stuff.
5/12/23
2024 LHP Ryan Press (West Virginia commit) was one of the most intriguing arms to take the mound Friday in Dorchester. 6-foot-1, 160-pound projectable left-hander works with a clean, repeatable delivery and there’s some athleticism on the mound. Came out of the gate with the fastball sitting 86-88mph T89 before settling in at 84-86mph during his final couple innings. There’s feel for the breaking ball with a big, vertical look with 12-6 action and the ability to locate. Has the ability to generate swings/misses on both the fastball and breaking ball. Press looked the part of one of the top arms in Ontario’s 2024 class and it’s a high-ceiling from the Toronto Mets product.
7/29/21
2021 Jr. Future Games Press, a loose and easy 2024 left-handed finished the game today and although the box score wasn’t his best, the stuff and actions play and are going to only get better. The arm is quick and gets outfront from ¾ slot and short, clean actions in the back that get up and are on time. The fastball was up to 83 mph and sat 81-82 while the curveball had tight spin and proper rotation with depth and 12/6 shape.
