A Niagara Falls Falcons product, the 2020 grad showed well on the mound. He got down the mound cleanly, mixed his three pitches well, FB/CB/CH. Displayed control of his pitches, hitting the glove for strikes. It's a fluid delivery that, with some adjustments, would provide length in games. He also comes with some versatility being able to play a couple of positions, putting his bat in the game, which was up to 83 mph. He sprayed the ball with solid contact at the plate. Someone to watch for this summer as he works his craft to get to the next level.
A big and physical two-way player with room to put on some muscle. At the plate, Vanderheiden has a short leg kick load, aggressive hand movement, but shows some looseness and quickness through the zone. Shows some strength in his swing, but there is more to come as he matures. In the infield, the 2020 grad shows clean arm action and throws up to 75 mph across the diamond. On the bump, Vanderheiden works from a deliberate, slow-paced delivery. Ball comes out from a high-¾ slot with some arm quickness out front. Fastball tops out at 76 mph, while his changeup sits 67-68 mph with some arm side fading action. Curveball has gradual 11/5 shape and sits between 63-64 mph. With added strength, Vanderheiden will be able to up his game in all facets.
