Gillespie (Georgia commit), 6-foot, 180-pounds, showcased electric stuff today at Panama City Beach. It’s an effortless delivery with a very quick arm and a feel for pitching. He has a strong lower half with athletic motions on the mound. His FB sat 92-93 mph, topped 94. Gillespie showcased some good looking off-speed pitches with his 75-76 mph CB that showed depth, and a fading 82-84 mph CH. Gillespie was easily the top pitcher on the day at PCB. Seven pro organizations were on hand to get a glimpse of the 2022 MLB Draft prospects.
8/01/19
Gillespie is a 2022 infielder with feel and polish to his game defensively right now. Showed range to both sides at shortstop while the hands are soft and work in sync with his lower half with body control. There is life out the hand and good feel for the position. At the plate, its a short and compact right-handed swing that's more of a line drive, contact oriented but will go backside that doesn’t swing and miss often. 6.90 runner with actions on both sides of the ball, Gillespie is going to add weight and size which will take his game to the next level.
3/11/19
Gillespie was a standout on day one of the week as his athleticism and actions in the field were evident in practice. His defensive ability translated to games where he was controlled fielding and transferring before getting off throws up to 80 mph. He played with ease and showed little pressure against good competition. The actions at the plate were raw, but there is bat-to-ball ability and looseness in his swing. His young age with years to develop make him an interesting player on both ends, but his glove looks to be his carrying tool.
9/09/17
Young 2021, Gillespie showed clean actions on both sides of the ball and a good understanding of fundamentals throughout the day. Creates good rhythm in the box with hands and getting the bat started. Leg kick in lower half load, barreled up some baseball with line drives up the middle, like the swing and where it is going. Defensively, some bounce in his lower half and moving side to side, made the plays and funnels ball to chest, obvious room to gain strength and mature, made the play on the run and shows some athletic actions for his age. Good day for the young 2021 grad.
