Listed as a potential 5th rounder in our preseason Top 250, Sandlin has a ton of upside remaining, especially for a third-year college pitcher. Standing 6-foot-4, 215-pounds the Sooners’ Game Two starter worked comfortably at 91-93 and bumped 94. Pitching from a high three-quarters slot with moderate effort he repeated his delivery throughout his 88-pitch outing. In what was his top performance so far in the 2022 season he allowed just two hits in his six inning shutout innings. Sandlin walked one and struck out seven against a powerful Longhorn lineup. His fastball is a bit straight, but he showed solid average command of the pitch and missed barrels. Another barrel misser was his high-spin 79-80 mph curveball. With its spin, shape, depth and velocity it graded as a present average ML quality pitch with plus to better future potential. He also dropped a quality 84-86 mph slider into the zone, mostly against RHHs. At its best it offered tight spin with late two-plane action. Future improvements will likely be a result of learning how to repeat his delivery more consistently from week to week. Overall, Sandlin’s upside is tantalizing and the scouts in attendance on Saturday at Globe Life may have just seen the start of what is to come the second half of the season. Sandlin very much looked like a pitcher on the rise.

Six-foot-4, 215-pounder, who just looks the part from a physical standpoint. Sandlin sat 93-95 and up to 96 mph with his velocity and did a good job of moving the fastball around the strike zone. He attacked hitters with an 83-85 mph slider that had some late bite to it and was tough to pick up for some right handed hitters. He also flashed a couple of 89 mph cutters.

Ranked No. 13 in the final PBR JUCO rankings this May, Sandlin is a projectable right-hander with a long and lean 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame. On the mound he will sit 90-95 mph with his fastball. With a four-pitch mix he has plenty of weapons to attack hitters. His curveball shows advanced action in the mid-70s with top-to-bottom shape and late depth. His changeup is also advanced, thrown with full arm speed and showing late, heavy fade at 81-82 mph. Last spring at Eastern Oklahoma, Sandlin punched out 100 in 65 IP to go along with a 3.18 ERA as he teamed with Andrew Walling and Christian McGowan (7th round to Philadelphia for $577K bonus) to lead the Mountaineers to a 47-7 overall record.
