Victor Nard: LHP/1B, (2022) St. Ignatius, OH. 6-foot-3, 185-pound projectable frame. On the mound, showing good arm speed he used a high ¾ arm angle and a quick arm action. Slow-tempo type pitcher and shows some effort. Athletic balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 74-78 mph; shows running action and arm side control. Shows gradual action on his 1/7 curveball (60-63). His changeup (68-69) has fading action and arm side control.
7/22/20
Scouting Notes: Nard continues to get closer and closer to his ceiling. 6-foot-3, very projectable frame with a ton of room to add. Fastball continues to trend upward topping at 81mph on this day. Expect that to continue as he continues to develop. Also showed solid feel for the secondary. Fastball: 79-81mph. Fastball Spin Rate: 1771-1784 Breaking Ball: 63-64 CB, 68-69 SL. Breaking Ball Spin Rate: 1523-1655
6/23/20
Scouting Notes: Much improved since we saw him last. 6-foot-3 lefty that has filled out and cleaned up movement patterns resulting in a velocity jump. With him having more projection left one would expect his upward velocity trend to continue. Offers two secondary offerings, both playable. Slider graded out slightly higher on this day but the changeup showed late dive as well. Fastball:77-78 mph. Works downhill, occasional dive/ASR. Fastball Spin Rate:1673-2058 Curveball: 65-66 mph. 1/7 action with early pop out of the hand. Curveball Spin Rate:1648-1712 Changeup: 65-68 mph.
2/16/20
2/16/20 Pitching Delivery Notes: Has the height and the length at 6’3. Compact smooth delivery allowing for his mechanics to be repeated easily. Not overpowering but I think we will see more velocity from him with physical development. Fastball: Topped at 75 mph, downhill angle, generates easier velo. Curveball: Between 57-62 mph, 1/7 shape, spins it well, will only sharpen up as he hits impending velocity jump. Changeup: 64-64 mph, good sell, similar look to fastball.
2/17/19 Pitching Body Type: 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame with room to add.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Left-hander that has a slower paced tempo to a delivery that requires little effort. Rolls through his chest high leg lift into a drop and drive load. Long back arm action through a high-¾ slot.
Fastball: Ball comes out well with signs of more velocity to come. 71-73 mph presently. The pitch will show regular arm side action.
Slider: 63-64 mph bender with a slurvish look to it. Good feel for the offering.
Changeup: Pitch shows quality fading action with a fastball look out of the hand.
Pitchability: Strike thrower.
2/17/19 Body Type: 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame with room to add. Swing Mechanics: Balanced stance with a small leg lift for timing. Hit: Lefty swinger with some lag through the zone on a mostly level path. Natural tools are developing. Works with an all fields approach. Much improved at the plate since we saw him last. Power: 76 mph exit velocity. Offensive Projection: TBD
6/19/18 The 5-foot-1, 140-pound wiry southpaw works from the stretch with a delivery that requires average effort. Uses a high leg kick before working finish slightly closed at foot strike. Arm action is longer staying behind the backside before working through a near OT slot. Fastball sat 64-67 mph. Breaking ball features gradual 12/6 break at 52-54 mph. Also mixed in a changeup at 57-58 mph. Showed the ability to throw each of the offerings for a strike. A lefty swinger that starts in a balanced setup. Shows a nice controlled leg kick with quiet hands prior to launch. Path is level with some natural lag through the zone. Finds plane well and has feel for the barrel. Much more to come with physical maturity.
3/11/18
Long limbed frame with a ton of physical projection left. Works exclusively from the stretch. Arm action is long back with some looseness to it through a near ¾ slot. Creates downward plane on his fastball that will show action to both sides of the plate at 62-66 mph. Much more velocity to come as physical maturation takes its course. Spins a big, early breaking curveball 54-57 mph. The pitch has a 1/7 look arm side with more of a 12/6 look glove side. Located the offering well. An arm to follow for when velocity arrives.
