Rodney Petties: OF, (2021) Canton McKinley, OH. 5-foot-6, 118-pound lean frame. Athletic during batting practice, the left-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 86 mph. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a small leg kick. Bat speed is efficient and uses a level swing plane. Through the round he found some barrels. Line drive approach. Solid in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 78 mph; showed a natural exchange, choppy feet, and consistent hands. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.71.
2/4/18
5-foot-6, 118 pound prospect gets behind the baseball well in the outfield and comes through it with good momentum while also showing a solid glove defensively. Petties had an aggressive approach as he went after each ball he was fielding with good intent and coming up ready to fire it. His throwing velocity was 75 mph displaying good arm strength for his age. Offensively, Petties has a level swing that squared up the majority of his round. For his size he creates surprising power which is attributed to his lower half firing and rotating through the ball. Top exit velocity of 78 mph. His hands are quick and his swing looked smooth for the most part. Good effort and tools that can develop in the coming years.
11/18/17
Ran a 4.41 from home to first. A lefty bat that had a very solid showing during batting practice. Starts in a balanced setup and flows through his loading sequence. Swing is compact with obvious barrel whip through the zone. Bat is quick and he has some strength to his hands. A line drive type guy presently who shows all the physical signs of more pop to come. Reached a top exit velocity of 83 mph. In the outfield he gets to the baseball in a timely fashion. Plays through the baseball nicely on his glove foot side. Arm strength is developing.
