Power / Speed Score

A right-handed bat that starts in an athletic stance. Movements are fluid and create energy prior to launch. Looks confident in the box and swings with intent. Finds plane well, showing well above average strength at contact. A middle of the lineup type bat. Actions/natural tools looked much improved since we saw him in the fall. Also continue to impress behind the dish. Very mechanically sound with obvious feel for the spot. Doesn’t have the quickest feet or strongest arm but makes up for it with exchange skills and accuracy. Really stood out with his ability to handle some talented arms in bullpens.

2/1/17 A righty swinger with an aggressive approach at the plate. Doesn’t get cheated on any of his swings. Lower half is efficient and powerful. Path is slightly uphill. Ball jumps off his bat when he finds the barrel, showing gap to gap pop. Showed fluidity and confidence to his action in the infield. Above average glove skills. Would like to see him play lower. Transfer is very quick. Behind the plate, he starts in an unbalanced stance. Shows some length in his footwork. Transfer has some quickness to it, but has room to improve with better glove to hand exchange. Pop times ranged between 2.12 to 2.16.
7/26/16 5-foot-8, 170-pound strong frame. Ran a 7.84 60-yard dash. Took an impressive round of batting practice, showing the ability to use both sides of the field. Has rhythm throughout his swing and creates solid energy into contact. More batspeed than his 77 mph exit velocity would indicate. In the infield he is a solid third baseman with efficient footwork and above average glove skills. Moves well laterally and threw across the infield with 71 mph arm strength. Behind the plate he recorded pop times of 2.1-2.22, and threw with 68 mph arm strength. Footwork, transfer, and arm strength are all average to above average tools and have room for improvement.
7/6/16 5-foot-8, 170-pound athletic body frame. Right-handed hitter starts his swing from an open stance using a leg kick for added power, getting himself squared back up to even. Loads with his hands moving past his back shoulder. Showed the ability to use both sides of the field during his round of batting practice. Reached a top exit velocity of 75 mph and ran a 7.67 60-yard dash. From behind the plate, he shows average footwork. Clean transfer into a high ¾ slot with 67 mph arm strength. Pop times ranging 2.22-2.31.
