Body Type: 5-foot-9, 155-pound average build. Swing Mechanics: Begins with an open stance. Minimal load, get extension thru the zone. Hit: Consistently found the barrel. Balanced approach using the whole field. Power: Line drive type hitter. More power likely to come with maturity. Offensive Projection: TBD. Could fit into multiple roles in the future. Run: 4.66 H to 1st Field: Fair first step, transfer and release need to continue to improve. Throw: Longer arm action, throws were accurate across the diamond at 73 mph. Defensive Projection: Too early to tell, role will likely depend on how much the arm improves moving forward. Additional Comments: Young prospect that could benefit from adding strength to this his frame.
1/26/19
Body Type: 5-foot-8 155-pound prospect.
Swing Mechanics: Starts his swing in a balanced setup. Is very short to the ball with his hands and upper body remaining pretty quiet during his load. His barrel is in and out of the zone a bit quick.
Hit: Good bat to ball ability despite his swing giving him less margin for error than ideal. Good barrel control.
Power: 82 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: Shows some potential with some good bat to ball ability. Swing might be a limiting aspect as he faces better competition with higher velocity.
Run: 4.96 home to 1st.
Field: In the infield Dewald seems to wait on the ball a bit too much and doesn’t take particularly efficient angles to the ball. Decent hands and glove, could still improve them by being a little ‘softer.’
Throw: 68 mph across the diamond.
Defensive Projection: Shows some decently raw physical ability as a 2022. Needs to clean up the edges and refine his defensive skills a bit to remain a guy who plays in the middle of the diamond at the next level.
1/26/19 Pitching
Body Type: 5-foot-8 155-pound prospect with an average build.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Fluid delivery with a slower pace. Shows balance through stride working in good direction. Works out of a long arm action and ¾ slot.
Fastball: 70-71 mph fastball with regular run to the arm side of the plate.
Curveball: 62-63 mph curveball has a slurvy look with gradual break. Needs to continue to develop feel for the pitch.
Changeup: 63-65 mph changeup thrown with deceptive arm action. Good feel, pitch shows some fade.
Pitchability: Good feel for the changeup. Fastball and change both have good movement. Breaking ball is still developing.
Role: Still early, possible starting option in the present.
