2/8/20 Pitching Delivery Notes: Beckman throws from a low ¾ arm slot with a whippy, quick arm action. Shows a smooth athleticism to his delivery. Fastball: Fastball was 79-83 mph and showed good arm side run. Fastball showed a true 2-seam fastball action. Fastball Spin Rate:2060-2090 Curveball: Breaking ball showed slider shape and spin at 69-71 mph. True slider with good depth and tight spin. Curveball Spin Rate: 1960-2020 Changeup: Changeup was 71-73 mph and showed good depth and arm side life. Pitchability: Well above average feel for his three pitch mix. Fastball and changeup paired together particularly well. Slider was also a quality pitch. Pitch mix profiles him as a guy who would get lots of groundballs.
1/13/19 Pitching Body Type: 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, long levers, room to add muscle and strength. Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Throws from a lower ¾ arm slot. The arm action is long and loose. Overall the delivery seems simple and repeatable. Fastball: Fastball sat in the 75-77 mph range. Showed some sink and fade to the arm side, especially when located down in the zone. Slider: Breaking ball had a slider type action. Didn’t show a ton of movement on the pitch but it had tight spin and he maintained good arm speed throwing it at 67-69 mph. Pitchability: Beckman showed good feel for his slider and was able to throw it well to his glove side and backdoor to his arm side. Fastball command was solid but was noticeably better to the arm side where he could accentuate natural sink and fade. Future Role: Physically not maxed out. Future role will depend a lot how he progresses physically. Definitely room for more velo. Developing a changeup will help him.
1/13/19 Body Type: 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, long levers, room to add muscle and strength. Swing Mechanics: Lefty swinger with a simple load. Uses a small back load with hands during short stride for timing. Hit: Flat path with a linear route to the baseball. Presently offers more present strength than speed to swing. All fields hitter. Power: 82 mph exit velocity. Much more to come. Ball jumps when on time. Should see easy increases in backspin frequency as swing tightens up. Should grow into regular gap abilities. Run: 4.81 H-1st. Field: Good athlete that moves well. More than adequate ball skills for the first base position. Throw: 74 mph across the diamond. Defensive Projection: 1B with above average athleticism.
