Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Joshua Hovanec: 1B/3B, (2021) Holy Name, OH. 6-foot-3, 250-pound solid frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter was ranked 2nd with an exit velocity of 98 mph.Setup included balanced stance and a smooth load. Bat speed was average, and used a flat swing plane. Solid in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 76 mph; had sure hands, consistent footwork, and a clean exchange. Movements laterally were average and he fields the ball out front. Ran a 4.32 30 yard dash.

2/8/20 Position Player Hit: Right-handed hitter that starts in an upright stance. Obvious physicality in the box. Simple, yet powerful stroke. Ball jumps when squared. Middle of the lineup frame and skill set. Power: Chance to hit for regular power. Offensive Projection: Middle Ceiling. Top Rapsodo BP Exit Velocity: 88 Top Rapsodo BP Distance:328 Field: Corner skill set in the infield. Moves well for frame with some fluidity to actions. Right now appears to be more advanced over at first base. Throw: High-3/4 righty with some jump out of hand. Defensive Projection: Corner guy.

Body Type: 6-foot-3, 230-pound very physical frame. Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Works exclusively from the stretch. Lower half is efficient with the lower half/drop and drive type. Looser arm through a near over the top slot. Delivery doesn’t require much effort. Fastball: 68-71. Comes in straight with his over-the-top release, with a high spin efficiency resulting in little movement and solid command. With his size, expect increased velos as he mature into his body. Low spin rate with high spin efficiency in the high 90s. Curveball: 58-61. 12/6. Works over the top with the spinner as well. Slows motion slightly with a big shape, more gradual break. Would expect to see some more development with the second offering as he builds strength and ability on the mound. Changeup: 62-63. The third offering acts as better second option than the breaker. With solid command, the changeup brings good change in velo and is placed well around the knees. Pitchability: Room for improvement with offspeed and expected to see higher velos down the road. Average for class.
Body Type: 6-foot-3, 230-pound physical frame. Swing Mechanics: Simple load with minimal movements. Keeps his hands loose and loaded. Hit: Downhill bat path that produces good bat speed. Backside approach. Power: Flashed pop backside. Offensive Projection: TBD. Field: Frame/skill set plays over at first base. Moves well for frame and has feel around the bag. Solid defender. Throw: Arm plays at the position. Defensive Projection: 1B.

Body Type: 6-foot-3, 230-pound physical frame. Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Physical kid with a lower effort delivery. High-¾ righty that works downhill. Fastball: Mostly true through the zone. More velocity to come as he matures. Curveball: 11/5 shaped big bender with gradual action. Changeup: Knuckle change. Decent arm speed that generates some dance on the ball through the zone. Additional Comments: Still growing into frame. Should see easy improvements as physical maturation takes its course.
Body Type: 6-foot-3, 230-pound physical frame. Swing Mechanics: Smooth strider with a vertical barrel launch. Hit: Obvious physicality in the box. Swing has unique movements but ball flies off his bat. Much more jump than typical for class. One of the louder BPs we saw on the day. Power: 93 mph exit velocity. Real power potential here. Offensive Projection: Run Producer. Run: 7.6 60-yard dash. Field: Good frame for the first base position. Moves off the bag well with more lateral mobility than frame would suggest. Throw: Long arm action with more than enough strength for the position. Defensive Projection: 1B.
