A duel prospect in the 2021 class. Swings and tosses it from the left side. At the plate he starts in a balanced, athletic setup. Goes with an easy back load during his controlled stride forward. Pre-launch movements are fluid and create solid separation. Maurer launches from a balanced position and takes a mostly level path to the baseball. Natural tools are developing and he should see more pop as he adds strength to his efficient swing. Bat could play a variety of roles inside an offense as he displayed feel for finding the barrel while working through an all fields approach. Ran a 5.01 from home to first and topped out at 67 mph off the tee. In the outfield he looks comfortable and plays under control as he approaches the baseball. Plays one-handed through the ball, fielding it nicely on his glove foot side. Transitions smoothly through fielding into his pro step for momentum. Threw with accuracy and 58 mph arm strength to home plate. On the mound, the left handed pitcher offers simple, repeatable mechanics. Average frame. Throws through a 3/4 slot with short arm action while his fastball sits 64-65 mph. Breaking ball displays some depth while moving through a 1/7 plane at 58-59 mph. Average arm speed with his 60-63 mph changeup.
