Notes

Comments

2/09/20

2/9/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Masterson shows a very clean delivery and arm action. He throws from a ¾ arm slot and creates good momentum down the mound and efficiently rotates around his front hip.
Fastball: The fastball was 78-80 mph and showed some sink and fade to the arm side.
Curveball: His breaking ball was 63-64 mph and showed a slurvey shape with a bit of a tumbling type action.
Changeup: The changeup was 70-72 mph.
Pitchability: Masterson shows good projection and feel for his three pitch mix. Presently his secondary offerings still show need for refinement but still have good projection. Uses his body very well to create velocity on his fastball.

2/9/20 Position Player
Hit: At the plate Masterson shows a high leg kick to initiate his load. Pretty flat bat path limits his ability to drive balls into the gap. Shows strong hands and fairly good bat to ball ability.
Power: 83 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: With his smaller frame he probably projects most as a gap to gap guy as he grows into his swing.
Field: In the outfield he attacks the ball aggressively with average footwork and rhythm. Could improve the quickness of his transfers and throws.
Throw: 81 mph from the outfield.
Defensive Projection: Corner OF type.

5/28/19

Body Type: 5-foot-9, 180-pound medium athletic build.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes:
Tight, over the top, smooth arm action that was slightly late some pitches. Back knee slightly shoots forward over the toe during glute load.
Fastball:
78-81 mph with slight arm side. Good potential.
Curveball:
62-63 mph with 10/4 movement.
Pitchability:
In the zone but would miss up in the zone. Could be simple mechanical fix.
Additional Comments:
Younger athlete already showing potential with fastball. Definitely an athlete to watch grow.

Body Type: 5-foot-9, 180-pound medium athletic build.
Swing Mechanics:
Small hand load as trigger. Fluid swing working slightly uphill.
Hit:
Barrel stays thru the zone working slight uphill creating some backspin. Showed a balanced approach working to all fields.
Power:
Limited power at this stage, does create some loft. More power to come as he matures physically. Recorded 75 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection:
Run:
4.57 H to 1st
Field:
Aggressive and clean thru the ball. Longer arm action and transfer. Stayed in control.
Throw:
Arm strength is average for his age at 78 mph. Throws were mostly accurate.
Defensive Projection:
Too early to tell. Likely to find himself in a corner outfield spot, development of arm strength will determine whether it’s left or right field.
Additional Comments:
Athletic young prospect with solid tools. Should continue to grow as a player.

2/17/19

2/17/19 Pitching

Body Type: 5-foot-9 175-pound right-handed pitching prospect with an average build.

Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Quick tempo delivery that requires some effort. Uses a long arm action working through a ¾ slot.

Fastball: 75-77 mph fastball worked to both sides of the plate with late run to the arm side.

Curveball: 61-64 mph has a near 12/6 shape. The pitch has big break but shows a little early out of the hand.

Changeup: 71-74 mph changeup is thrown with fastball arm action and shows regular late fading action.

Pitchability: Good feel for both secondary offerings. Fastball was little erratic at times. Changeup is best secondary pitch and could develop into a plus offer in the future.

Role: Likely a pen arm at the high school level right now. Too early to tell where he fits in as a college prospect.

2/17/19

Body Type: 5-foot-9 175-pound prospect.

Swing Mechanics: Starts in an upright stance and uses a toe tap load. Shows strong hands and quick wrists and had an on plane bat path.

Hit: Good barrel control.

Power: 87 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection:
Shows well above average raw power from a 2022. His frame might make you question whether that is sustainable long term. Has a good swing and should at minimum develop into a gap to gap threat in high school.

Field: In the outfield he waits on the ball and plays through the ball decently well. Showed an average release and a clean arm action.

Throw: 77 mph from the outfield.

Run: 4.70 home to first.

Defensive Projection: Which OF spot will fit him best at the next level will mainly depend on how develops physically and fundamentally. Based on his present skillset a corner OF spot would seem to be the most logical landing spot down the road.
