Body Type: 5-foot-11, 185-pound physical frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Looks the part out there/interesting arm to follow. Delivery is clean and easier. Should see easy velo increases.
Fastball: 79-82 mph. 1900-2100 spin rate guy with late life through the zone. Fills up the zone.
Curveball: Above average offering. Spins it well on an 11/5 plane. Pitch shows some swing/miss. 68-71 mph.
Pitchability: Impressive. Dotted throughout his outing.
Swing Mechanics: Simple hands throughout with an athletic lower half.
Hit: Compact, slightly downhill stroke with noticeable burst through the one. Aggressive swinger. Ball comes off well. Worked to both gaps with mostly regular backspin.

2/17/18
5-foot-10 and 159-pound athletic right-handed pitching prospect. Sunderman has nice rhythm to his delivery. Works out of his leg lift into a drop and drive type lower half. Level shoulders and good direction during the stride. Uses a short arm action through a low-3/4 slot. Filled up the zone with all three of his offerings. At 74-76 MPH, the fastball has consistent arm side run to both sides of the plate. The changeup might be his best secondary offering at this time. At 65-67 MPH, the pitch has regular cut and tunnels off the fastball. Also offered a 11/5 breaking ball. The pitch has developing depth sitting 59-60 MPH. Two-way prospect. Really liked what I saw from Sunderman at the plate. Does a nice job of remaining fluid and balanced throughout swing. A line drive hitter that has feel to all fields. Generates impressive pop for frame with a lower effort swing. Stood out for his ability to manipulate the barrel to consistently square up the baseball. Expect more pop as physical maturation takes its course. In the infield he has smooth, quiet actions with above average ball skills. Sure-handed with the ability to move out of his funnel to make plays. How arm and lateral mobility develop like dictate which spot he ends up at.

5/31/17 Was very impressive in the infield. Actions are athletic and he is very mechanically sound. Glove skills are far advanced for his age. Looks to have the skill set to stay at shortstop moving forward. A righty swinger at the plate that starts in a balanced setup. Uses a leg kick to create energy with his lower half. Hands move back to a strong launch position during stride. Path is level with barrel whip through the zone. Worked well to the middle of the field. On the mound the righty has a very fast arm and is mechanically efficient. Expect his 73-75 mph fastball to keep gaining velocity as he matures physically. Displayed advanced pitchability for his age, tossing both his secondary offerings for strikes. Looked equally comfortable with his changeup and breaking ball. Breaking ball has an 11/5 shape with gradual break at 61-62 mph. Uses near fastball arm speed for his 65-70 mph changeup that has some fade to it.

1/28/17 On the mound, the 5-foot-7, 135-pound right-hander has a slower tempo to his low effort delivery. Arm action is clean with some looseness to it. Creates solid momentum and direction to home plate with his lower half. Working through a high-¾ slot he sat 70-72 mph with his fastball. The pitch showed slight run at times. His best offspeed pitch was his 65-67 mph changeup. The pitch has a fastball look to it prior to showing late run and sink. Also flashed an 11/5 shaped breaking ball that had gradual break at 59-60 mph. Starts open at the plate and uses a short stride to get back to even. Mechanically simple with an aggressive approach. Swing is compact with quickness to his bat. Top of the lineup type guy. Worked both sides of the field during batting practice. Defensively, he shows athleticism in his feet that should only improve with age. Still needs to work on creating angles towards first base. Hands work well. Transfer can get long, but should be easy fix as he eliminates the extra steps. Throws from ¾ slot with short arm action. Would like to see him throw from different angles pending where the ball takes him.

6/28/16 5-foot-5, 120-pound prospect. Ran an 8.23 60-yard dash. Efficient mechanically at the plate. Uses a hands back load during his short stride forward. Should see an easy increase in his 67 mph exit velocity as he matures physically. In the infield he has quick footwork with adequate glove skills. Played through the ball nicely before throwing across the infield with 70 mph arm strength.
3/19/16 5-foot-5, 120-pound prospect. Advanced skills for his age. Short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 68 mph across the infield with carry to his throws. Fluid footwork and good athleticism in his feet. Shows soft hands and gets rid of the ball with a quick exchange. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 63 mh. Short arm action, but transfer gets long. Opens early effecting his release and accuracy. Stance is wide. With minor adjustments, could see vastly improved results. Pop time between 2.3 to 2.51. Gavin was also very impressive on the mound showing good tempo and solid direction to home plate. Had an impressive three-pitch mix with his fastball sitting 68-69 mph. A strike thrower that was able to work his fastball to both sides of the plate. Both of his offspeed pitches were advanced for his age with his 11/5 shaped curveball showing sharpness at 61-63 mph. Changeup had fade to it at 63-64 mph. Ran an 8.44 60-yard dash.
