Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
11/10/18 A right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. Goes with a knee pinch load as hands stay simple prior to launch. Level stroke with slightly more strength than speed to hands. Although strength is a bit louder both tools are above average. Ball came off well, backspinning the ball to both gaps. Arm stands out in the outfield. Ball jumps out of hand with throws showing both carry and accuracy. How he ends up as a runner will likely determine future destination positionally. Doubles as a LHP with an athletic build. He throws from a ¾ slot with a clean and compact arm action. He hides the ball well in his delivery, and is dynamic in his delivery and uses his body well to generate velocity. His fastball sat 74-76 mph and showed some late life/ arm side run and would appear to get on hitters quick. His breaking ball showed good spin and was a better pitch when thrown harder in the 63-65 mph range and shaped more like a slider. His changeup appeared to be a developing pitch with some fade but not much depth. The changeup sat 67-69 mph. 60 yard dash: 7.58 Outfield Velocity: 81 Exit Velocity: 82
7/5/17 A right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Mechanics are relatively simple, as he takes his hands back during his short stride forward. Path is level and he gets on plane early. Stronger that he is fast with the bat at this stage. Was at his best when he worked to the middle of the field. In the outfield he approaches the baseball using aggressive footwork. Plays through the ball well, maintaining momentum into his throws. Throws showed some carry and were on target. On the mound, the lefty pitching prospect gets the most out of his frame by initiating lower half. Against lefty hitter, his well-developed offspeed makes it difficult to track. He provides a wide variety of tempo, keeping hitters off balanced throughout at-bats. Lands slightly closed with momentum carrying him to the third base side as he finishes. Quick arm action, with a slight ¾ drop in his release. Fastball runs at times. More to come out of the young, smaller framed athlete. 5-foot-10, 155-pound prospect. Right-handed hitter that starts from a wide, open stance at the plate. Some quickness to his swing with uphill path to the ball. When he put it all together, he created solid contact with signs of pull power to his swing. Top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.28 60-yard dash. In the outfield, showed good footwork and aggressively attacked the ball. Registered a top outfield velocity of 73 mph. On the mound, Throws through a ¾ slot with long arm action. High lift with rhythm in the delivery. Forward lean during stride phase. Good direction and squared at landing. Fastball has cutting action sitting at 67-69 mph. Showed good feel for a 2/8 curveball at 55-60 mph with depth. Also, displayed good arm speed on a 60-64 mph changeup with cut.
7/6/16 Young looking 5-foot-9, 139-pound thin, projectable body frame. In the outfield he fields ground balls out in front of his body, near his glove side. Would like to see improved footwork, replacing his feet when he crow hops. Throws with a clean arm action, through an upper ¾ slot reaching a top velocity of 67 mph from the outfield. A right-handed hitter with simple, quieter swing mechanics. Hits his swing from a balanced stance using a short, fluid load with his hands moving to his back shoulder. Swings with a level bat path through the zone, finishing with a high, two-handed follow through. Showed the ability to use both sides of the field. Recorded a top exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 7.80 60-yard dash. On the mound he shows good rhythm in his delivery. Throws through a high ¾ slot with the fastball sitting 64-68 mph. Changeup sat 60-62 mph.
