A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball

Ben Moreira: LHP/1B, (2023) Oakwood, OH. 5-foot-11, 170-pound. Athletic at the plate, the left-handed hitter was ranked 2nd with an exit velocity of 95 mph.Began in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a toe tap. Bat speed is above average and displays a level swing plane. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 76 mph; has a natural exchange, athletic feet, and consistent hands. Solid on the mound, has an short arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Slow-tempo type pitcher and uses some effort. Athletic balance point. Curveball (65-69 mph), changeup (69-70 mph).Sat with his fastball at 75-78 mph.
1/21/19 Pitching
Body Type: 5-foot-11 120 pound prospect. Very thin with lots of room to add size and strength. Lots of projection remains.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: LHP throws from a ¾ arm slot with somewhat smooth actions. Presently the delivery lacks much deception.
Fastball: 67-70 mph fastball showed some promising sink to the arm side.
Curveball: 58-61 mph breaking ball showed a slurvey shape. The pitch had a tumbling type action with looser spin.
Changeup: 60-63 mph changeup was mostly true but did have a fading action at times.
Pitchability: Overall solid feel of his 3 pitch mix to both sides of the plate. Fastball and changeup pair well together. Breaking ball is where he has the the most present room for skill improvement.
Role: Presently the skills lends themselves to more of a bullpen type. But lots of remaining projectability.
1/21/19
Swing Mechanics: Lefty swinger that starts in an upright stance before getting into his leg kick timing trigger. Hands stay simple through load and into launch.
Hit: Aggressive swinger with some lag through the zone. Swing should tighten up as he gets more physical with maturity. Laced LDs to the middle of the field in BP.
Power: 72 mph exit velocity. Shows more burst than feel at this stage. When he connects it goes. Offers more pop than most prospects his age.
Offensive Projection: TBD
Run: 7.91 60-yard Dash.
Field: Also stood out at first base where he showed an above average skill set across the board. Has the look of a future well above average defender over there.
Throw: 66 mph from 1B.
Defensive Projection: 1B
Additional Comments: Young prospect with a ton of physical maturing to do. Impressed with his actions/skills set on both sides of the ball.
