A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Body Type: 5-foot-11 175-pound prospect with room to add strength.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Delivery is clean and efficient. Works at a moderate tempo, finishes slightly closed at foot contact. Uses a long arm action through a ¾ slot.
Fastball: 71-75 mph fastball is mostly straight with slight cutting action when thrown to the glove side.
Curveball: 57-60 mph curveball has a bigger 11/5 shape with gradual break.
Changeup: 66-67 mph changeup is thrown with deceptive arm action. Pitch some regular cutting action through the zone.
Pitchability: Offers a solid three pitch mix. All pitches are presently playable offerings with the changeup likely being his best pitch. Overall control is solid. Would like to see the breaking ball tighten up a little in the future.
Role: Too early to tell, but likely a pen arm at a smaller school.
1/21/19 Body Type: 5-foot-11 175-pound prospect with room to add strength.
Swing Mechanics: Tall stance. Uses a leg kick timing trigger while hands stay simple.
Hit: Vertical barrel launch gives him easy/natural whip through the zone. Barrel gets too and through contact with good direction. Path is slightly downhill with backspin abilities. Solid round of BP.
Power: 81 mph exit velocity. Gap to Gap pop. Has obvious physicality in there with some hand speed. Ball jumps. A bit raw but well above average pop.
Offensive Projection: Run producer.
Run: 7.14 60-yard dash.
Field: In the infield he plays fast with above average athleticism and developing ball skills.
Throw: 75 mph arm strength across the infield. Arm works. More strength to come.
Defensive Projection: 3B/2B.
2/10/18
5-foot-11, 165 pound taller, thin framed pitcher throws from a ¾ arm slot and longer arm action. Gavern showed a high leg kick prior to getting downhill and kept a consistent, flowing rhythm throughout his delivery. Fastball was 71-73 mph. He throws his curveball well at 57-59 with good break. Changeup was 62-64 mph. Good energy on the mound. At the plate the righty starts in a taller setup. Uses a slight back load during his controlled stride forward. Triggers from a balanced position, taking a slightly downhill path to contact. Shows some twitch to his hands and should see easy increases in popo as he fill sout his athletic frame. A contact/line drive type guy presently. In the infield he attacks the ball off the bat using direct footwork. Does a nice job of playing low through the baseball. Mechanically sound in general. Arm profiles him at second base presently.
