The athlete's maximum throwing velocity from an infield position in the given event year. Measured in miles per hour (MPH).
A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Physical: 5-foot-11, 170 pounds; full, filled out frame. 7.35 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Weight shifted to the back foot with high hands wrapped around his head; uses a small heel turn toward the pitcher to load his hips, very consistent in timing. Limited use of lower half, could rotate around the hips more efficiently with level bat path, has some barrel wiggle pre pitch to maintain the rhythm in his swing. Lifted some balls to the pull side gap, also hit some balls back up the middle with good velocity; peak Trackman exit velocity of 86 MPH. Defensively: Stands straight up but has some weight actively shifting forward as the ball is hit; moves weight to toes as the ball is being hit, moves feet well to get into good fielding position. Fields out in front from a low stance, stands up from time to time; long swing out of the glove into a high 3/4 slot. INF - 77 MPH. Pitching: Good weight shift down the mound, gaining some momentum and extension into release. Long, loose arm action sometimes stabbing backward out of the glove causing the arm to not be able to swing up on time. FB: T 78 MPH, 76-78 MPH. Spotted fastball well to either side, according to spin numbers it would be best if thrown in the bottom of the zone. CB: 67 MPH. Good tilt to the curveball with some downward and glove side break. His slider was good when it was thrown down, late glove side action. CH: 71 MPH. Very good movement to the changeup with good two plane action.
8/07/19
Case stands 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with a lean frame. Shoulder width stance in the box, loose hands that slightly drop as the pitch approaches, stride for timing, barrel path is direct to the ball, mostly level barrel plane, line drive approach. Defensively, attacks the ball head on, wide stance, fields the ball deep in his stance, arm action is long and low effort as he releases the ball, would like to see him more aggressive with his throws.
