New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Alteri stands in at 6-foot; 190 pounds with a very athletic build and toned frame. Strong upper body with long legs provides ability to grow into an ideal baseball body frame. Playing Shortstop throughout high school, projected to excel at second base or third base in college. Runs well for his body size with a 7.10 – 60 time. Offensively-Slightly open approach with hands above back shoulder with slight movement with the bat. On pitch his trigger is a step in with a toe tap while his hands set up in a good position behind his back shoulder. Swing plane is short to the hitting zone with good bat action keeping the barrel in to make contact consistently. Mid-Body finish with good lower body rotation. Displayed an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defensively-Good body mechanics and fluid through fielding the ball and funneling it up to his throwing hand. Tends to take an extra step when throwing across the diamond, can be improved with shorter arm swing and quicker footwork moving towards target. Arm strength peaked at 80 mph.
May 2016
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed shortstop with a large presence as a left-handed batter. Pitchers in the Frontier League pitch around Alteri whenever possible — including with the bases loaded and less than two outs. Alteri has logged four seasons of varsity baseball already. He has a mature body groomed in the weight room for football — he ranked fifth in the state in receiving yards in 2015 — and baseball. Alteri has great plate coverage, taking the ball to both fields for power and contact. Takes pitch high in the zone hard and straight up the middle, but can get caught chasing. Made sprint home on sac fly in 3.60 seconds, narrowly beating live throw from right field. Makes spectacular play at shortstop such as drawing lead runner into pickle, charging slow rollers on grass. Has third baseman’s arm, can make every throw, but needs to make routine play with better precision.
