Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
Stands 5-foot-10, 175-pounds with a solidly built frame. Shows signs of athleticism for his position running a 7.25 60-yard dash. At the plate he uses a wide base, back load, no stride. On the pitch his hands power direct to the ball, barrel path is level with full extension after contact, no restrictions throughout the swing, exit velocity of 89 mph off a tee showing some signs of raw power. Behind the dish, wide base receives ball with open soft glove. Footwork is quick, high arm-action releasing from a high slot with 72 mph arm-strength, 2.17 best pop-time. Would like to see the arm action shorten up and added arm-strength will take his game to another level.
Campus Series- St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)
Kopolow stands in at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 5.12 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher in a wide stance with his feet outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a toe tap forward while his hands move back slightly to get into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and using the whole-body frame throughout the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with upward lift barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated solid contact during batting practice round with line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side. Smooth and fluid swing with upside. Recorded an exit velocity of 90 MPH. Defensively- Frames well keeping glove and body quiet. Quick footwork and mechanics getting the ball up into throwing position on the throws to second. Could shorten the arm swing to be quicker and will develop more with added strength. Was accurate with throws to the first base side of second base. Blocks well and shows athletic footwork getting up quickly to make the play. Overall a smooth catcher with upside with continued development. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 64 MPH with a pop time range of 2.07-2.13.
