Cape Cod: Were it not for a hamstring injury cutting his season short just past the halfway mark, Honeyman could very well have run away with league MVP honors. Through 24 games, the BC product slashed .289/.400/.530, displaying one of the most balanced and impactful offensive profiles on the Cape, blending a good approach and nose for getting on base with some of the best in-game power production the league saw. The power, in particular, was a welcome addition to the profile for evaluators, as the outfielder hit well for Boston College this past spring (.329/.402/.506) but limited pop, with just 16 of his 54 hits going for extra bases (6 HR, 1 3B, 9 2B). Honeyman utilizes an open stance and high leg lift in his load to jump start his swing, showing good feel and an impressive ability to track. His barrel stays on time despite the action through his load, thanks to above-average bat speed, and he stays on plane producing regular hard contact. He moves well in the outfield, covering ground easily and showing a high level of comfort finishing on the run. He moves well enough at present to hold down center field at the next level, but the arm is closer to average than plus and it’s likely he sees a fair increase in body mass as his projectable frame continues to fill out. Even if eventually forced to a corner, Honeyman looks the part of a potential impact bat and will be closely monitored this upcoming fall and spring as a potential first rounder with top ten upside.
