Campus Series-Canisius (July 5, 2017)
Schrader stands in at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.47 home to first, shy of his previous best mark of 4.06 set in February 2017. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet shoulder width apart. Stands vertical holding the back just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quiet stride forward while his hands move back slightly to get into the hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing the hips and getting his whole frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with an upward lift barrel action into a high one-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 78 MPH, just shy of his previous best 80 MPH set in February 2017. Defensively- Shows a good approach and footwork to the baseball. Fielding mechanics are clean with a good funnel into the chest with a quick transition into the throwing position. Could me more aggressive with the footwork towards the intended target with quicker infielder arm swing. Was accurate on throws and moves well left/right. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 70 MPH.
Winter Open (February 12, 2017)
Physical 5-foot-9 175 pound frame; ran a 7.34 60 and a 4.06 home-to-1B. Offensively- Narrow setup, lifts bat from shoulder into load with a 40 degree bat angle. Gains ground with stride forward, staying behind the ball into contact with some moderate back foot/hip rotation. Additional aggression via the lower half will help him reach his power potential. Line drive/flyball results middle to the pull side of the field. Exit velocity peaked at 80 MPH. Defensively- Standard middle infielder setup; active footwork to the ball. Hands get out in front; 3/4 slot with some carry at 74 MPH (up 4 MPH). Possible 3B projection if arm continues to improve.
WNY Travel Workout (January 16, 2017)
Schrader checks in at 5-foot-9, 175 pounds. Registered a time of 4.46 seconds from home to first base. Offensively- Has an upright stance with feet slightly less than shoulder width. Hands are by back shoulder with bat laid flat. Long stride forward as hands load back. Weight transfers forward during swing and ends up over front foot. Hands are direct to ball with some extension through contact. Flat swing plane with a low, one handed finish. Had an exit velocity of 80 MPH from the tee. Defensively- Approaches ball with short choppy steps. Sets up with wide base and good knee bend. Catches ball out in front of and takes hands right to throwing position. Has a powerful crossover step to generate momentum towards target for throws. Had a velocity of 71 MPH across the infield.
