Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Big frame standing 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. Average actions defensively, clean arm action with carry on the ball, 79 mph. Offensively, leverage in the swing, 86 mph exit velo. Compact to the ball, shorter path. Pitching - Tall frame with wide shoulders and long limbs. Uses a low 3/4 slot and has a loose/whippy arm action that creates good life on the FB. His delivery is more smooth than it is explosive but he controls his actions well for a taller pitcher. FB works to the middle of the plate and runs to his arm-side corner when he stays behind it. He has a good feel for bis breaking ball and understands how to use it in-game. Very projectable arm. FB peaked 81 with more in tank.
Diamond Pro Workout (January 14, 2017)
O’Mara stands at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds with a strong lower half. Was timed at 4.75 seconds from home to first base. Offensively- Begins with a wide base with legs straight. Hands are above back shoulder with a high back elbow. Loads weight over back leg and uses a slow leg kick to initiate swing. Weight transfers forward through swing. Barrel is short to ball and hands stay tight to body throughout swing, limiting extension. Hands finish high after contact. Pull side line drive/groundball results; peak exit velocity was 79 MPH from the tee. Defensively- Moves to ball smoothly. Sets up with a narrow base and most of bend occurs at waist. Catches ball out front before funneling hands back to stomach. Footwork was inconsistent but always gained ground towards target. Had a 74 MPH throwing velocity across the diamond. Next level corner projection. Pitching- Begins with feet at shoulder width towards first base side of rubber. Uses a side step to left to allow right foot to pivot onto rubber. Has a high leg kick that comes to shoulder height with slight back turn to home plate. Stride is long and lands closed on 3B side of mound. Has a long, clean arm action on the back side. Has a traditional ¾ arm slot that produced fastballs in the 76-78 MPH range; with room for more. Mixed in a changeup at 73-74 MPH.
