Projectable 6-foot-2, 180 pounds RHP. Pitching - The RHP has good presence and tempo with a repeatable delivery. Gets to the good balance point and smooth hand separation before getting downhill. FB has a good downward angle at 77 MPH. CB is an effective pitch when the arm doesn’t slow down at 62-65 MPH. Has feel for the CH at 70-72 MPH. The 2020 RHP has a projectable frame to increase numbers in the future.
Southern Tier Sluggers Workout
Contrata, a 2020 right-handed hitting RHP/OF, stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs 140 pounds, ran a7.56 60. Offensively- Starts with a square balanced lower half with the hands held above the back shoulder and barrel of the bat moving between a parallel and 45-degree angle. Gets to the launch phase of the swing with a high leg kick, minimal stride forward, while the hands are loaded outside the back shoulder and barrel of the bat is casted away from the back shoulder. During batting practice, line drive approach from the pull side to opposite field gap, showing an ability to drive the ball in the lower third of the zone middle away fairly well. Registered an exit velocity of 75 MPH on the day. Defensively- Tentative approach to the ball, waiting for the ball especially on the ground allowing the ball to get somewhat deep. Transfers the ball from the waist, creating a long circular arm motion. Pulls the front side on the throw which causes the throwing arm to cast away from the body. More carry and velocity could be shown with an ability to keep the front side tighter from the power position to the release. Registered an arm velocity of 73 MPH on the day. Pitching- Starts from the center of the rubber with both hands center of the body slight above the chest. Gets to the gathered position of the delivery with a short step to the first base line while the pivot foot remains center of the rubber with the lead knee elevating above the waist, some inward rotation, and hands are raised ear height. Sticks the landing with the lead toe slightly closed back leg extended and lead elbow slightly outside the lead shoulder. The fastball, thrown from a mid to high ¾ arm slot, topped out at 73 MPH, showing good down angle at times as well as being worked to both side of the plate. The changeup, topping out at 72 MPH, showed good depth but needs a better differential from the fastball. The curveball showed 11-to-5 shape, topping out at 64 MPH, but needs to show more consistent rotation and command.
