Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Physical: 6-foot-3, 230 pounds; full frame, strong lower half. 8.76 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Shoulder width feet and high elbows. Uses a big bat wiggle to initiate all movements, strides forward and launches from there. limited effort from the lower half, leaves his back leg load when he strides out but still manages to clear the hips on time with a fairly level swing that picks up right at the end, uses rigid arms to maintain strength in the swing. Hit the ball in the air with solid contact on every pitch; peak Trackman exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively: Pops off the bag well on the double play, keeping his feet under him. Stays light on his feet to approach the ball and make a good throw to second. Soft hands and an easy transfer make for a quick throw to second; quick, loose arm action from a low 3/4 snapy slot. INF - 61 MPH. Pitching: Slow delivery down the mound, throws off a firm front leg catapulting the ball out of his hand. Moderate arm swing that flips up into the ready position right at foot strike creating whip in the arm. FB: T 73 MPH, 69-72 MPH. Located his FB well all throughout the strike zone showing complete pitchability. CB: 60-62 MPH. Displayed a CB that looked similar to his fastball and then took a drop right before the plate. CH: 63-64 MPH. Threw a changeup that had a good difference in speed compared to his FB, keeping a hitter off balance.
7/22/20
Physical: Large and sturdy 6-foot-3, 230-pound frame with plenty of strength throughout the build. 8.50 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH. Even, loose stance as the center of gravity is out over the plate with the hands showing slight rhythm pre-load. Stretched with the hands back deep past the shoulder coupled with a leg-hang stride initiated a swing featuring lots of bat speed through the hitting zone. The barrel worked through a slightly uphill path with lift after contact creating natural backspin when contacting the ball out in front of the plate. Demonstrated weight shift into a shift front side generating inconsistent timing on occasion, but generally stayed deep with the lower half and let the hands work. Recorded a top bat-exit velocity of 89 mph according to Trackman Baseball.
Defensively: The primary first baseman displayed average feel around the bag with a moderate center of gravity and soft glove hand fielding the ball off of the center of his body. Demonstrated short, choppy actions while moving laterally. Accurate throwing arm out of a high ¾ slot, 1B - 72 mph
2/18/20
Physical: 6-foot-3, 230-pounds. Tall, filled out frame. 8.88 runner in the 60; 5.01 home-to-1B. Offensively: RHH. Tall, upright stance with an even base, hands slightly higher than shoulders with a level bat, brings hands back on load along with a medium stride for timing Flat, direct barrel path that clears the zone quickly, small tendency to get out on front foot. Hard contact to pull-side gap. 80 MPH raw exit velocity. Defensively: Starts upright and gets low along with the ball, small hop for timing, fields the ball in the middle of his body. Short arm swing with a 3/4 slot. INF - 71 MPH.
Pitching Delivery: Works up tempo out of the stretch, Get his leg up, down and out keeping the shoulders in line into a repeatable release. Arm Action: Drops down out of the glove with slight hesitation before getting to a clean 3/4 release. FB: T75, 73-75 MPH. Locates in the zone with arm side run. CB: 64-66 MPH. Locates with sharp 1-7 break.
July 2018
Saved a run on range to left at third base; Cut off shortstop, fired ¾ across to first. Left-handed bat, best contact came on lineout to right. Turned on a pitch later to drive in a run through the right side. Second day update: Right handed pitcher between 70-73. Always out of the stretch with a 90 degree leg kick. Curveball showed good drop. Pounded the strike zone.
Team Pac (December 16, 2017)
Pierce Mehigan is a right-handed hitting 1B/LHP who stands at 5-foot-11, 150 pounds. Ran a 4.93 home to first time. Offensively- Starts with a wide, even base with weight evenly distributed. Hands are in front of the back shoulder with the bat straight up and down with a slight pre-pitch wiggle movement. Initiates the swing with a shift of weight to the backside using a buggy whip motion with the hands while the lead foot lifts slightly with minimal movement towards the pitcher. Showed a line drive swing with a mid-chest one handed finish. Recorded an exit velocity of 73 MPH. Defensively- Showed lateral range, moving better to the glove side. Throws were accurate and showed side-arm and ¾ delivery with a registered arm velocity of 67 MPH. Fielded the ball cleanly but flat footed at times. Pitching- Left handed with set up from the stretch on the left side of the rubber. Hands at the belt and front leg slightly in front of back leg. Simple leg lift and hand raise to chest as he gets to balance point and strides straight to catcher. Arm action is short out of the glove with a ¾ arm slot. Arm side run on fastball sitting 64-66 MPH and peaking at 67 MPH. Change-up shows appropriate fade to arm side and will be a good pitch at 63-65 MPH with continued development and adjustments with it's differential. CB checked in at 59-60 MPH.
