Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)

Bernstein stands in at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Recorded a 7.29 – 60, improved from his previous best of 7.50 in October 2016. Offensively- Lefty sets up in an open stance with his feet inside his shoulders and a slight knee bend. Shows an upright torso with his hands held in front of his back shoulder showing little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a knee raise in towards his back leg to stride out while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Hands are quick to the hitting zone with good upward barrel action throughout into a high two handed finish. Good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved in swing. Was consistent hitting line drives middle in with a fluid swing covering the whole plate. Recorded an exit velocity of 87 MPH, a 2 MPH improvement from October 2016. Defensively- Showed athletic footwork getting to the baseball. Good crow hop mechanics gaining ground throughout the entire process gaining momentum into the throw. Has good separation and on target. Could follow through more towards intended target to increase speed and accuracy. Recorded an arm positional velocity of 70 MPH, shy of his previously best recorded velocity of 78 MPH.
Big Apple Preview (October 8, 2016)
Bernstein stands in at 5-foot-9, 150-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.50 – 60. Offensively- Lefty sets up with his feet inside shoulder width with his knees bent and an upright torso. Hands held just above the back shoulder with little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a knee raise to stride forward while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Good lower body rotation getting hips through utilizing whole body frame in swing. Hands are quick to the hitting zone with an upward lift bat path into a high one handed finish. Slight tendency to drop hands getting underneath baseball. Will get better with added strength and getting front foot down before committing to the swing. Swing is fluid and smooth; uses the whole plate with consistent gap-to-gap line drive results. Recorded an exit velocity of 85 MPH. Defensively- Good footwork and approach to baseball. Moves well left/right with good crow hop mechanics. Tendency to throw uphill. Will need to get more on top gaining ground towards target with a downhill arm action. Overall a definite collegiate prospect. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 78 MPH.
