Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Physical: Lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 165lb frame with a high-waist. 7.48 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, slightly narrow stance as the hands operated loosely at the shoulder. Utilized a short lift and replace stride, launching the barrel through an immediate, flat path with some twitch into the hitting zone. Showed natural feel for the top hand during his round, hitting into a firm front-side at impact and produced a T87 mph bat-exit velocity (via Trackman). Able to lift the baseball in a mostly fly ball approach to the pull-side of the field (56% fly ball rate / 340 foot batted ball distance) with doubles power available.
Defensively: The primary backstop demonstrated a soft glove hand at the catch from a traditional, balanced crouch position. Pop times ranged from 2.11-2.18 with quick/directional, repeatable footwork that stayed in rhythm to the target. Released accurately from a H ¾, fluid slot working up to a T71 mph arm out of the crouch. Moved to third base with some length in the approach, creating range to his glove hand side and shuffling downard to the target. Notched a T76 mph arm from the hot corner across the diamond.
2/18/21
Physical: Lean, high-waisted 6-foot-1, 160-pound frame with room to add strength as he matures. 7.69 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH. Slightly open, bent stance with the hands starting idle on the shoulder to begin. Utilized a short lift and replace stride in order to initiate the bat head through a flat path into the hitting zone. Horizontal bat angle at contact promoting a pull-side approach while hitting across the body at times. Stayed in the legs well with lift in the swing (55% fly ball rate) giving way to an impressive 318 foot peak batted ball distance per Trackman Baseball. Recorded an 86 mph bat-exit velocity and there’s more to come in that department as he continues refinement. Long levers and quick hand speed (23 mph max) did the trick offensively.
Defensively: The primary catcher featured adequate receiving skills with a quiet glove hand from both traditional and left knee down techniques; pop times ranged from 2.33-2.39 with quick straight line footwork and short, efficient release from a high ¾ slot (71 mph). Beat the ball to the spot when blocking with minor down chest angles … The third baseman showcased a low posture while working right to left at the fielding window, soft glove hand funneled into the body, loose high ¾ slot on the release yielding a 71 mph arm strength across the diamond. Made the play on the run look seamless to end his defensive round.
