Comments

8/02/20

Physical: Durable and well put together 6-foot, 200-pound frame with a nice blend of athleticism / strength in the actions. Winthrop commit. 7.34 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH. Wide, slightly open stance with the hands starting over the shoulder as the barrel points down towards the backside with moderate circular rhythm. Initiated a fluid, slightly uphill barrel path with plenty of bat speed through impact using a leg-hang stride with advanced feel for timing. Got the hands on plane early and whipped the barrel through extension dealing lots of damage at the front of the plate. Athletic and adjustable lower half created high level ground power / rotational acceleration in the box. Demonstrated extra base hit prowess during batting practice peppering the LCF gap with regularity, carried the momentum into game action with multiple extra base hits against premiere pitching. On time with the FB at all times, mature approach at the dish and always gets his best swing off. Recorded a peak bat-exit velocity of 91 mph per Trackman Baseball / max batted ball distance of 360 feet.

Defensively: The primary catcher is a solid defender with increased receiving skills from a low crouch, soft glove hand worked loose and effortlessly to steal borderline pitches during game action. Pop times ranged from 2.13-2.20 using short and quick straight line footwork towards the target coupled with adequate catch and throw skills out of a high ¾ slot (moderate arm circle). Got his athletic frame around the baseball on either side of the plate while blocking, deadening the baseball with downward chest angles. C - 75 mph

7/06/20

Physical: Strong, projectable 6-foot, 200-pound frame with a prototypical catcher’s build. 7.41 runner in the 60-yard dash. Winthrop commit.

Offensively: RHH. Balanced, slightly open stance with some lean into a controlled backside in the setup. Utilized a leg-lift stride and a barrel tip at the top of the load by the ear to initiate a fluid, slightly uphill barrel path with plenty of bat speed into the hitting zone. Generated powerful lower half drive and hip-shoulder separation creating next level hand speed through contact. The hands worked through the baseball towards extension with regularity and repeatedly contacted the ball at the front of the plate. Recorded a max of 73 mph barrel speed according to Blast Motion and a top distance of 359 feet on a batted ball. Displayed a quality round of batting practice (67% hard hit percentage per Trackman Baseball) with a peak of 96 mph bat-exit velocity. Should be a solid hitter at the collegiate level with middle of the order type skills and plenty of gap to gap juice; should accumulate plenty of RBI’s with ability to situationally hit in-game.

Defensively: The primary backstop is an advanced defender beating the ball to the catch point with a soft glove hand while receiving; gets the body around the ball with regularity while sticking through the zone from low to high. Pop times ranged from 1.90-1.96 in showcase setting with powerful lower half drive out of a low crouch with quick transfers and an accurate, high ¾ throwing arm with a quick, moderate arm circle. Extremely athletic behind the dish able to range deep to either direction and create soft walls with recovery ability when blocking. C - 79 mph

6/25/19

A projectable strong frame at 6-foot-0 tall, 200 pounds. Ran a 7.48 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box in a tall stance. Rocks his hands back and uses a slight leg lift before attacking the baseball. Direct path to the baseball. Slight lift at the point of contact. Good use of the lower half. Stays balanced throughout his swing. Top exit velocity was 90 MPH. Defensively- Gets in a low wide base. Slightly open.  Catches the ball slightly off center. Shows a quick transfer and quick release from a high ¾ arm slot. Showed active footwork behind the plate. Top throwing velocity was 75 MPH. Pop time ranged from 2.06-2.19. the 2022 Catcher is a must follow.

8/02/18

Broad shoulder; thick legged right-handed hitting catcher who ran a 7.65 60. Offensively- Slightly open setup; flat barrel over shoulder with a slight tip towards the mound. Stays tight to the body; hands inside contact with an elevated 2-hand finish. Showed plenty of pop for his age. Raw exit velocity was 88 MPH off the tee. Defensively- Arm works behind the dish with a peak velocity of 71 MPH; slight hesitation after transfer, waiting for body to land before releasing; throws generally stayed on line over the 2 days. Pop time range right at 2.21-2.22 with room for improvement. Receiving/blocking aspects need to improve but he has the skill set to do so.

7/24/18

6-foot, 175-pound, strong, physical frame, strength throughout, good looking athlete. Offensively-  Right-handed hitting catcher, at the plate, front foot slightly open, wider than shoulder width, hands are relaxed at the shoulders with the bat starting in a flat position. The swing is powerful, creates lift to it, has above average power to the pull side. Showed the ability to keep the barrel in the zone a long time. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 82 MPH and ran 4.77 from home to first base. Collected multiple hits, consistently on base, in game play, made an impact on the day. Defensively- had a pop time of 2.12-2.20 the arm was clocked at 72 MPH. The arm works out of a high 3/3 slot, with good carry. The hands are soft on the catch, anticipated the dirt ball read well. Big time prospect.
