MA Academic Games (July 26, 2016)
Right-handed hitting middle infielder who swung the bat well at the event. Offensively- Tee exit velocity of 88 mph as the hands are very strong to contact. Hits out of a even base with loose hands. The path is designed to stay inside the ball and he does a good job of that. The bottom half is under control and he stays in position to hit. Did top spin a couple balls in batting practice. Defensively- threw 82 mph across the diamond, plenty of arm and was accurate. The glove is solid and as was the approach to the ball. Handled the pivot solidly and made all the plays in the game. Ran a 4.52 down the line on a dig.
New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Stands 5-foot-11, 185-pounds with a strong durable frame. Has shown drastic improvements time after time since we first saw him February of 2015. Arm strength was 82-mph across the diamond, 60 was 7.09; exit velocity was 89-mph. Offensively- Sets up with a wide balanced base and hands about ear level. Stays simple and direct to the ball with great bat control and the ability to hit all fields. Throughout the games showed great discipline at the plate and the ability to hit for average and high on base guy. Defensively- Shows solid fundamentals in the field and versatility to play all over the infield. With the gains in arm strength he could even move to 3b at the college level. If the tools continue to progress as they have been, coupled with great baseball IQ and instincts, he should be a great addition to a college roster.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Mazzara stands 5-foot-11, 185-pounds with a strong frame that will take even more in the weight room. Michael has made some serious gains in the past year with arm strength up to 84-mph as well as a much improved exit velocity of 87-mph. Offensively- Sets up with a wide firm base and uses a small up down stride with limited movement up top. Has consistent bat path and a line drive gap to gap approach. Defensively- Up the middle he works everything to the center of his body with glove out in front, sound fundamentals and good actions. With his added arm strength Mazzara now shows versatility to play all over the field. Though solid up the middle, could also do well at 3b or even a corner outfield spot. Certainly an attractive college prospect.
WNY Pro Holiday Clinic (December 19, 2015)
The 5’11 176 pound, well put together middle shortstop/outfielder looks to have great versatility. With an athletic frame with room for even more in the weight room, he should be one to keep an eye on. Offensively- At the plate stance and swing is simple. Sets up with a wide base, hands slightly above shoulder height and loads with short stride while hands remain in same slot. He uses good drive from his lower half that will increase even more as he adds some rhythm within his load. He consistently barreled the ball up at the Holiday Clinic. Defensively- At short, Mazzara worked through the ball nicely with no wasted movement and a quick release and good arm strength. We’ve seen a lot of growth in this 2017 over the past year and are excited to see what his 2016 season will bring for him.
WNY All-Star Games (August 27, 2015)
Stands at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, with an athletic body build. He ran a 4.62 Home to 1st from the right-hand side. Defensively- He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft hands, throws with a low 3/4 arm action, plays through the ball nicely, with some of range, and has accuracy on the target. His arm strength was 80 MPH. Offensively- At the plate his setup is relaxed and balanced stance, short leg kick stride, with a minimal back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level plane throw the ball, with good extension, finishing above shoulder height. His exit velocity was 79 MPH.
Preseason All-State (February 15, 2015)
Mazzara stands 5-foot-9, 170-pounds with an average build. Offensively- At the plate his front foot is slightly open, loads back on pitch, short path to the ball, mostly level bat plane, long extension out in front through contact, high finish, exit velocity was 76 mph. Defensively- From the infield he gets behind the ball, bends his back more than his knees on the play, straight back arm-action, very low-3/4 slot, arm strength at 70 mph. He ran a 7.7 60 yard dash.
