Unsigned Sr. Showcase (Oct 30, 2016)
Dessena stands 6-foot-1, 160-pounds with a lean athletic build, room to put on more weight. He uses a fluid-quick pace to his delivery, uses some hip-and-shoulder separation, longer arm-action but clean, releases from a high-3/4 slot. Fastball peaked at 80 mph, mostly sat 79 with arm-side run (falls hard to first-base side with body). Shows an impressive fastball hand-speed change-up at 65 mph, some fade. Curvball shows good shape, but was loose early due to not releasing more out in front of his body, at times 12/6 shape.
Western NY Prospect Preview (July 5, 2018)
Dessena is a 6-foot, 160 pound RHP. Pitching- Matthew starts with a shoulder width stance shading to the left side of the rubber. He shifts to the middle with his side step, bringing himself to a nice balanced power position with his leg kick. An average length stride leads into an over the top delivery while finishing falling off to the 1st base side. Gets chest out over knee well. FB hovers around 80 MPH with  ability to pin point. Threw a nice mix of curveballs (66-68 MPH) with 1-to-7 action. Changeup showed some sink at 69-71 MPH; produced off-balance swings.

Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Matt stands 6-foot-0, 155-pounds with a slender, athletic build. Pitching - He uses a slower paced delivery, medium high knee-lift, drops and drives hard on his back-side. Opens up his hips slightly too soon before release. Throws from a power 3/4 slot, fastball peaking 78 MPH, sitting 76-77. With added strength and fixing his hips look for his velo to elevate. Curveball shows loose early break, 12/6 shape at 66 MPH.
WNY Pro Holiday Clinic (December 19, 2015)
This 6’ 155 pound 2017 dual player sets up at the plate with a tall balanced base and hands about ear height.  Offensively- He uses a simple load with a very small stride while dropping his hands slightly at launch position.  He uses a one hand high finish.  He showed an 80 mph exit velocity.  Defensively- In the outfield he set up behind and worked through the ball off his glove side foot.  With some added strength in the weight room this offseason he could see some good bat speed gains at the plate.  His tall athletic frame right now could also prove to translate to some good success on the mound. Pitching- Dessena showed a live arm on the mound.  He uses a minimal side step with a high leg kick and great hip rotation.  His lanky/athletic frame allows him to create great rotation in his delivery.  He loads well behind the rubber before working downhill over a stiff front leg.  Arm slot is just above 3/4. Though the mechanics could be cleaned up a bit, he shows good athletic upside on the mound and could really see some velocity gains come summer.
