Comments
Matthew stands in at a full bodied 6-foot-2, 225 pounds 3B/RHP. He ran a 4.87 home to 1B. Offensively- Matthew digs in with his feet just outside shoulder width, standing tall. Demonstrates a bat waggle early on working back into proper separation. Elevated leg lift for a stride. Showed repeatable efforts with good balance swing to swing. Exit velocity was 86 MPH; groundball/line drive results. Defensively- Matthew starts in an upright position but is able to get his hands out infront. Could benefit from a more aggressive approach to and through the ball; infield velocity was 72 MPH.1B/3B prototype. Pitching- On the mound, Matthew starts on the far left-side of the rubber; a quick, tucked in leg drive to his balance point. Arm action is long and works through a high ¾ slot. Matthew's FB was hovering around 79-81 MPH with the ability to stay down in the zone. His curveball came in at 67-69 MPH, with some early action; slows arm on occasion here. Flashed a few change-ups that sat 69-70 MPH.
New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Matt is a full bodied 6-foot-2; 225 pounds. Pitching- On the mound Matt works with a deliberate pace through his windup. Compact up to his balance point with and extended front leg into landing. Works through a high 3/4 slot and could benefit from additional lower half effort, especially through his finish. FB sat 79-81 MPH, touching 83 MPH; featured arm side run and sink. CB was 71-73 MPH with late downward action (12-to-6). Navigated his way through two appearances in the NY Games; competes and showed the ability to stay down. If he can get ahead of hitters early on, he'll be able to utilize his secondary offerings.
Buckeye Elite Showcase (July 8, 2015)
6-foot-2, 215-pound thicker body frame.Defensively- In the infield he uses good footwork to approach ground balls, fielding with his hands out in front of his body. He throws with a clean, short arm action coming from a low ¾ slot and reached a top velocity of 69 mph.
FB: 75-78
CB: 64-66
